Flowey probabaly wasn't written with lovelessness in mind because of how Undertale makes his inability based in him having no soul, which makes being loveless seem like an impossibility for anyone who isn't a determination experiment, and also implies lovelessness to be "unnatural" in a way. Plus I'm pretty sure Undertale predates any of the actual terminology, which makes intentionality really unlikely.

All that aside, Flowey is functionally canonically caedlove: he went through a traumatic experience that resulted in him being unable to love. The distress over all this is the catalyst for everything that defines him as Flowey. This is why he discovers his ability to reset time and starts his reset loops that will end in him murdering and manipulating people out of sheer boredom.

You could say that internalised alovephobia was at fault for a lot of it. If Flowey actually saw a loveless life as one worth living, he might've coped better with everything else and managed to live with his grief and guilt. Maybe he wouldn't have learned about resets at all, or maybe it would've only happened years down the line. We don't know what the livespan of determination-having sentient flowers is compared to most monsters. Maybe a healthier Flowey wouldn't have gone on a killing spree. Who knows? But either way, there's definitely an undercurrent of critique in Flowey's storyline.

As I said earlier, I doubt this is intentional exploration of a queer perspective because it contradicts Toby Fox's approach to queerness in Undertale: the Underground is meant to be a queer utopia that doesn't include any bigotry. Him breaking with that convention just to include lovenormativity doesn't seem like a choice he'd make if he knew there was a real-world equivalent, especially considering the lovelessness as a consequence of soullessness thing.

Keeping all this in mind, we're lucky Flowey is as nuanced of a portrayal as he is. It could've been much worse.

Lukewarm take: Both Undertale, and Deltarune would be written VERY differently if Toby knew lovelessness is aspec, and thus, queer.

Flowey can be so much worse, but he could also be so much better! AAAGH

the latter half of her song, Your Reality, really feels like a loveless person struggling to understand their (lack of) feelings and thinking that if they dont feel love they cant and shouldn't have a relationship :,(

between thinking love is something that only happens when someone else likes you first (recipro?)

and saying to blue "I dont really know what love is, its even hard just to say it" and "i mean, can I even-" before getting interrupted

(and also blues 'if even a flower can love' when theres a canonically loveless flower in utdr already...)

and she doesnt like the idea of flirting with someone just because she likes them

she actually consistently uses the term 'like' for how she feels about noelle instead of love, even when the conversation had otherwise been using the term love

ive always liked the idea of her being loveless ever since the "love will find its way to the girl" prophecy scene but this chapter just solidified it for me!

The blue deltarune alove headcannon has alot of interesting potential for character analysis! Especialy since other flowers have a flaw and blue [seth and green] don't really have any as far as I can tell, though with blue and his constant focus on love this can be very developing to his character! He could even be alove romantic! Since he could conflate care or romance with love when their different things [like I did once upon a time lol]

he keeps talking about how we're walking "with love in our hearts" and all our actions are strengthened by love and that's what keeps him going, and not to be a spiteful bitch but i think it's only fair that he's alovespec.

he didn't mean any of that, that's interalised aphobia. he can't imagine a world with something he doesn't even understand. that's a desperate desire to seem aware and in control

i like them... and they get loveless beamed.... but theres a scene where they're like "happy valentines day, i didn't get you anything (i didn't get you anything) do you wanna make out" and then it really happily cuts to the next scene

if i think about it i think teddy is the third allolove lurker of their relationship who's like, really into all the stuff they don't care about. he has a very normal amount of information saved about their anniversaries and favorite gifts and stuff

any time they're figuring out gifts for each other teddy's like "bobbb!!!! bob!!!! did you think about– okay lINDAAAA!!!! lindaaaa!!!!"

actually, you know i think it'd be cooler if teddy was loveless and just really liked love related things. and then he's nonpartnering himself and really supportive of other ppls relationships

sanji from one piece is a loveless romantic to me, but not completely because of his enhancements, tho i do think they play the smallest role in making him unable to feel love specifically, despite him being able to feel other emotions, but more or so because he rejects what it means to love, due to his inability to love.

he ‘loves’ the idea of love, and he often mistakes other positive feelings (such as his deep care n affection for the strawhats) for love, but he cant really feel love. he can feel other emotions, such as happiness, excitement, anger, disgust, etc, unlike his brothers who struggle to feel a broad range of emotions, but love is not one of those emotions. he cares, often too much he would say, about his friends, zeff n the baratie, but he cant really love them in the way they might want him to love him (not like they would exactly force him to feel something he cant).

so he shows that he cares through cooking, feeding, fighting for his friends, staying up in the crows nest to stay guard, etc. and like i said, sanji loves the idea of love, so he dates the strawhats, he kisses them, swoons after them, asks for their hands in marriage, but not out of love. out of a deep seated affection n care for them, but not love, never love.

everything he does, hes rejecting the notion that you must love to care, and to romantically pursue others, by pursuing his strawhats without love.
