I think it would reopen all his old wounds about being unable to change for the better and fix his past mistakes, but he'd hide it from Leon oh so well, while also watching Leon go through the same, because his life's work is going to shit and survivors of Raccoon city are dying, so who did he even save, right?

I wonder if even though Leon comes back home alright after Elpis, and Luis is obviosuly overjoyed, part of him is still absolutely devastated by the fact that he didn't help at all. I also wonder if he realizes that through the years he's been one of the main threads Leon's faith in goodness of humanity is hanging by. That just being able to hold Luis and feel his heartbeat is enough, because the virus might have been killing his body, but his mind was dying of despair.

Yeah idk I'm just thinking Leon coming home and absolutely squishing Luis under his weight and Luis clinging to him with wet red-rimmed eyes. Something like that. Just both concentrated on each other's breathing and heartbeat.
