She signed up to be involved in this spectacularly awful shitshow because she knew it would increase her public exposure. To someone trying to get famous, to increase her name-recognition and the chances of landing bigger acting roles, that was clearly too tempting an opportunity to let pass, even though it’s morally unpleasant, at best.

Yes, the role of “Louis’ girlfriend” would be filled by someone else, if Danielle hadn’t taken it, but that doesn’t absolve her of her willingness to come on board. She agreed to this; she knew she would be required to go to events with him, to travel, to hang out with his family and to make sure she was either seen by fans, or that their proximity was otherwise divulged, through things like social media.

In fact, she’s counting on it. Every time the two of them are spotted together awkwardly eating breakfast on a windowsill, or walking through an airport holding each others’ fingers, or she hamfistedly snapchats their movements through very public outings, that’s the highlight of her arrangement. Her future perceived fame-boost hinges on these outings with Louis. Each sighting is helping her get the thing she wanted out of this arrangement. It’s not, thankfully, seeming to lead to any acting work for her, but it’s still a box ticked, a step forward. Fame. Exposure. Name recognition.

So yes, every time they’re spotted together, I’m annoyed at her. Whether or not she’s comfortable, or happy, or enjoying being a part of the arrangment NOW is of no concern to me.
