“all i want is a zig zig ahh-” isabella shouted loudly, her ginger wig swinging as she wore her union jack dress dancing around, flipping her hair. “Ah–You have a zig zig ah-” She shouted to the male as she danced her way over, grabbing a cigarette and putting it in her mouth. She then danced her back outside “If you wanna be my lover–” She then smirked looking up “You gotta’ get with my friends–Come on!” The intoxication of tequila piercing through her “You know the words…Friendship…-” She spurred on with her hands.

the song had been charlotte’s jam for so long. she remembered days blasting it on the radio, dancing to it in her room and singing it loudly at home whenever the song came on. hearing it tonight was expected, but she still couldn’t help herself when it did come on. “friendship never ends!” she sang out loud as she held onto isabella, stopping her from falling. the other was clearly intoxicated, and lottie was quite tipsy herself. “i love this song so much. so, so much!”

          “𝐈𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐈𝐓? 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐒 I literally feel like I probably shouldn’t be that picky but then living in Manhattan has taught me that these are usually the type of guys who turn out to be total creeps when you do somehow take them up on their offer,”  Aubrey couldn’t help herself but ramble. It had happened to her far too many times to count already. Though, luckily, she usually did have a couple of friends nearby whenever she found herself in such predicaments. If anything, the art of online dating had definitely made her life a whole lot easier. Even if luck in the romance department hadn’t necessarily been on her side lately.  “You definitely don’t have to tell me twice,”  she laughed, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear as Lottie returned the compliment to her.  “Thank you,”  she smiled, her gaze too briefly perusing the long list of cocktail concoctions at their disposal.  “I think you’re onto something really good here.”

“well, i’m quite picky myself so i don’t blame you. you know, even stealing a kiss ain’t happening until i like the person. it must be quite scary though, to think that you could be going out on a date with some creepy guy,” charlotte said with a shudder at the thought. she had her share of horrible dates, but thankfully she had managed to avoid the creeps throughout the years. “anytime, darling,” she said with a wink, watching as the other made her choice. “i know i am! you should try it too. you’ll love it!”

beth nodded as she took another sip from her water at lottie’s comment. it was funny to see how lottie and beth get along, she always admired that little woman. how in high school she might’ve looked little but man you wouldn’t want to mess with that little girl. “oh no she wouldn’t, she wouldn’t stop until she’ll make the other person and cry.” beth shook her head and sighed. she wasn’t sorry for who she was back then, she was a girl who wanted to have anything in any way possible, there’s nothing woring with that. “oh please lottie i’m not perfect, i try to be but i’m not.. “ beth shook her head again as she spoke. “let’s say that i know that i’m all this stuff, but with all that– i have my flaws and need to work on them.” beth added. “i hope so too.” she replied to lottie’s words. beth let out a laugh and gave her friend a wide smile. “can’t wait for him to tell me he met you, sounds like a good story.”

taking a sip of her own water before setting the glass on the desk in front of her, charlotte tried to suppress the chuckle at beth’s words. that sounded much more like the beth she knew, always making sure she got her way and that people felt sorry for messing up with her. “that was the beth i knew, yes. but hey, if you’re working on becoming a better version of who you are, then that is great too,” she encouraged the other. it was never a bad thing to work on being a better person, and she was glad beth was doing that now. “no one is. but you’re pretty close to it,” she added, nodding to show that she meant those words. “we all have flaws. acknowledging them is the first big step towards working on them. you’ll get there, i promise,” she continued to reassure beth. “he will love ir. pinky pomise.”

“ nah, don’t feel horrible. it’s all good . ” tierney hummed with a smile as she took a seat before the other woman . “ i mean , i’ll never turn down food . ” she admitted with a laugh . “ i get that . block is never fun , no matter what you’re writing . ooh recipes ? what for ? ”

“still. i always feel bad for snapping at people. it’s not something i should do, like, ever,” charlotte admitted with a soft sigh, offering the other a smile of her own as she sat down in front of her. “good thing we’re in a bakery. you’ve got quite the choice,” charlotte chuckled before tilting her head towards the counter. “quick anything and its yours,” she informed the other before nodding. “i’m trying to write a baking book. emphasis on trying.”

“water for the lady then.” beth said as she brought up the drinks for the girl sitting across her. “and yeah i totally understand, that’s why i always drink one cup of water before and after i eat. it’s very healthy.” she said with a small laugh. thinking about all the sweet she ate, isn’t very much healthy. she sat down back in her chair while she drank her cup of water. “sometimes it doesn’t work, like people tease me and not in a good way but i try to hold my horses before i speak.” beth joked. “i just feel like he could date any girl believe me, and he chose me. i thought i’m not worthy, but i’m doing this to prove myself that i am.” she admitted with a small shy smile. beth never felt in her life not worthy, but well.. what love can do to you. “you’re right, but i need to make my name. like i need to make it as beth shuster and not just as the daughter of shuster, i’m doing this slowly but it a hard work. “let me know when you’ll find him.” beth chuckled. 

“thank you so much,” charlotte said as she reached out to take the glass of water in her hand before lifting it to her lips. “believe in the power of water to make the less healthy stuff disappear as it enters our body,” charlotte said with a chuckle. “only that’s just not the way things go in life. which is a disappointment really,” she said with a small shrug of her shoulders. “the fact that you’re trying is enough. old beth wouldn’t have held her horses before speaking now, would she?” lottie  questioned,, knowing the way her friend used to act before. “please, why wouldn’t he choose you? you’re gorgeous, intelligent, a wonderful woman... you’re perfect, beth. i mean it!” charlotte could never understand why beth didn’t believe in herself the way she should. “yeah, it’s hard to live in someone’s shadow, but you’ll get there eventually. i know you will.” with a loud chuckle, charlotte shook her head. “he will know i found him before you do. because you bet i will let him know the second i recognize him,”

“Oh. I”m fine with talking about him. I’m just extremely embarrassed with the whole bonfire thing. I wish I could just go back and not do that… some of it,” she admitted with a chuckle.  There were very few things that Ellie regretted and that night was one of them. “What? You don’t tease us… or me. Or at least I don’t recall. Wow, I’m getting old and my memory is failing me if you do.. unless I’m just that dense.” Another laugh fell from her lips. Tilting her head side to side, her nose scrunched up a bit. “I wouldn’t say always.” 

“we all do things we’re embarrassed about sometimes. especially when we’ve had a few drinks and they get to our head. you don’t have to beat yourself up about it though, alright?” she attempted to reassure her friend that it was alright. “well, no i mostly tease sam. he gets the brunt of the teasing. like, 99% of it for sure,” she added with a chuckle, knowing that her brother had to endure her teasing on most days. she was truly blessed to have him as her brother, who still loved her despite her being the annoying little sister at times. “almost always, then. how does that sound?”

sam gave a shocked look and shook his head, “i’m not predictable at all. i don’t know what you’re talking about.” even if she was probably right, he would never admit it. besides, she had the advantage of being his sister and probably just knew him too well. “darn, i need to get better about eating without smudging. i swear i’m like a kid still,” he pointed out with a shrug and sighed. hearing her words, he chuckled and nodded. he would never bring her down from cloud nine and just let her believe what she wanted. “yeah, no that’ll never happen. she might be favoring me now. i have the advantage. i am now the favorite caine when it comes to ellie,” he said with a smile. he shut his eyes, unsure why he was telling lottie anything at all, feeling weird about it even without actual details. “okay, i’m not talking about what we did or didn’t do with you. that’s weird. and my head is just fine, i don’t know what you’re going on about. and i’m not leaving her hanging! am i? i mean, what am i supposed to do?” he questioned, feeling silly for how he got when it came to ellie. he was never one to overthink about women, or dating them. he was usually confident and went for it, but with ellie, there was a fear of rejection that was completely unlike him.

raising her eyebrows in unison, charlotte shook her head at her brother’s words. “i can read you like an open book. and you’re the most predictable caine, so that’s easy peasy for me to do,” she went on, accompanied by a shrug of her shoulders. “you’re still a  baby, that’s something we’ve established a very long time ago. we need to teach you how to eat your food properly it seems,” she chuckled, gently nudging her brother’s leg from underneath the table. “i’ve got to say that is definitely not right. i want to be ellie’s favorite,” she pouted, although she would definitely let sam have that honor. she had been rooting for the two for so long after all. “yeah, that’s very weird. on second thought, don’t tell me. but sam, don’t let me get pissed at you. have you told her how you really feel? what you want? where you want things to go between the two of you? communication is key, sam.”

James smiled over at her. “I think I’m just a creature of habit, why try something new when I go to mint?” He asked with a playful look on his face and a tilt of his head. “Really, it’s my treat. Everyone deserves to have something nice done for them, even if it’s something as simple as buying you your milkshake.” He explained as he reached for his milkshake, taking a sip of it and giving a hum. It really was the right choice after all. Not for sure if he knew her or not, or even if he had already introduced himself to her, James stuck out his hand. “James by the way. Nice to meet you.” He paused and made a slight face. “And if we’ve met before and I don’t remember you, I really am sorry.” 

“you see, experimenting with flavors is part of my job. i have to try out new things, different combinations, to create something new. but when it comes to picking something for my own personal enjoyment, then i stick to the classics. they are a classic for a reason after all,” charlotte admitted herself, before quickly adding, “not mint, though. that’s a classic i don’t  approve of.” a giggle followed her words, before resting her hand over her heart. “you’re so kind. thank you so much. that’s very sweet of you,” she told the man, before thanking the server who handed over her own vanilla  milkshake. “charlotte,” she quickly replied, her free hand shooting out in front of her to shake his. “it’s nice to meet you too, james. and no, i’m not sure we have met actually!”

beth chuckled and sighed. “i need some water for all these sweet things going on here. wants some too? maybe a coffee?” beth asked as she stood up and went to her small drinks corner she had in her office. “well i know i don’t need to change for anyone, but the guy i’m dating is making me feel like i need to be a better person for him. not that he said anything cause he made sure to tell me how much he loves me for who i am. but i just know that i need to get rid for some old habits for myself first.” she said with a shrug taking out a bottle of water from her fridge. “let’s say that i hate to think of the future if it’s not my job. i used to over think all the time that i didn’t get to enjoy lots of things and now i have to enjoy every little moments with him.” beth gave lottie a soft smile. talking about matt made her so happy and now she’s realizing it. “don’t worry you’ll meet him, and also just know it’s him when you see a young tall handsome man traveling around with a little girl. believe me, you’ll notice him.” she joked with a wink.

“some water would be great actually! need to wash it all down with something that’s good for the body, you know?” charlotte replied with a giggle, watching as beth brought the drinks for them. “the important thing is that whatever you do, you do it for yourself. not because you feel like you have to. but knowing that he’s bringing out the best of you... that’s amazing, beth. it really is.” charlotte was truly happy for her friend. even if all those years ago she dated her brother, knowing that she had moved on and found a man who made her happy delighted the caine. “well, then you take things as they come. but there are so  many more things to life than just work, beth,” she added, knowing that work often was too big a part of life that it overshadowed the importance of other things. “i’ll have to keep my eyes out then. overanalyse all my costumers until i spot him.”

          𝐀 𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐀 smirk managed to take over the petite blonde’s lips as the baker considered living in Finley’s shadow a challenge. Was Finley even to be considered her competition nowadays? As far as June could tell, her older brother had gone much too soft for his own good. Like melted butter on a piece of toast. Tame beyond compare compared to what he once used to be like. A side she couldn’t wait to once again bring out of him during her time being here.  “So it would appear,”  the girl mused, picking away at her muffin with long fingernails before breaking off a small piece of the baked good and popping into her mouth, her features oozing nonchalance.  “I suppose you must visit The Green Room quite often, too, then. You can thank our old man for the ole British invasion.”

charlotte chuckled at the thought of the woman in front of her competing with her brother. there was never anything wrong with some sibling competition. no matter what that was about. “well, i can’t say that i visit every week, but there are only so many places you can go to in this town. the green room happens to be one of the best. the music’s always good, the company is great most of the time, and when your brother decides to show off his moves it’s always top-level entertainment.”

“That makes sense. So, what do you do when you can’t figure it out? Bake anyway until you do”, he said. He never minded talking about food, and it was kind of on topic. He didn’t bake much, but he could always volunteer to taste test. “Hey. Messing around with food leads to genius sometimes. I think that’s how most savory deserts were thought of”, he said. He was a simple cook. He still wasn’t exactly sure if he was behind beetroot and bacon in desserts, but if it worked for some people, then it worked. “You know what you want to write, you’ve already won half the battle”, he said. “It is. And if that’s all you get out, there are actually a lot of books about names. You can totally build around Lottie.”

“well, if it’s for personal use, then i just try and wing it. but if it’s for a client, i always try to design it on paper before. otherwise i’d have to start over if i mess it up,” charlotte explained, thinking of all the times she had to start over because some client’s expectations were too high and some people just aren’t happy with anything. “i must admit i’ve always been hesitant about savory desserts. i get maple-covered bacon, because that’s just pure delicious greasy goodness. but the only acceptable vegetable in dessert are carrots. at least that’s the way i see it.” charlotte liked her desserts sweet, and if that  meant they were not the epitome of healthy then so be it.” charlotte’s eyebrows furrowed  in confusion at the thought. “so you’re saying i could write a whole book about my name? wouldn’t that be boring?”

sam watched, both waiting and expecting his sister to ask him to unlock his phone but much to his surprise she didn’t need his help at all. on second thought, it wasn’t that much of a surprise after all, but he still managed to fake a shocked look. “no no no, i’m really curious how you know it. i change it often, so how you have kept up with the updates is beyond me. a little frightening as well. what else do you know, hmm?” he questioned, mostly to mess with her since being as close as they were, their secrets are to a minimum. as soon as she was finished with her recording, he laughed and programmed it as needed. “thank you, now i have the loveliest alarm. i might have to do one like this for ellie soon. i think she’d appreciate my voice as she wakes up, right?” he thought out loud, and laughed at the thought, already imagining ellie’s reaction and response if he ever did it. “don’t tell me what i will or won’t do. you wouldn’t be able to stop me,” he pointed out, though he would never put her in a position like that, as much as he would want to defend her honor if that was needed. he sighed, shaking his head with a chuckle. “well.. i mean.. we kissed.. and one thing led to another. and it was great. i just don’t know where her head is at. and i don’t want to ask.”

a devious smile remained on charlotte’s lips, a shrug of her shoulder following his question. “you’re much more predictable than you think, sammy whammy. and remember that i know everything because i can read your mind. oh yes i can.” she added with a chuckle, tapping against her forehead with her index finger before shaking her head. “just kidding, you must have just unlocked it after stealing a something from the goodie jar. there was a smudge on the screen, it was just too easy to follow the pattern,” she admitted. “you have the greatest alarm in the world. all brothers in the world will be jealous. soon they’ll be begging their baby sisters to copy my idea, you watch and wait. nope, we’ll put a recording of you telling ellie that i’m better than you. that would be something she’d appreciate even more,” charlotte blurted out with a chuckle, watching her brother’s face to see his reaction. “fine. there’s no stopping mr samuel caine junior, we all know that,” she said with a roll of her eyes, lifting her hands up in the air in defeat. even though she knew that he always meant well, and this intention would always be to keep her best interest at heart. “one thing led to another after you kissed... oh my god, did you do the thing thing? samuel! i know where your head is, and it’s stuck in your behind. you can’t leave her hanging, sam. you’ve got to make a move!”

“What?! No I want my gold star this is bullshit.” He said sticking out his tongue and rolling back over. “Yeah let’s blame the food and not the human being wielding the chopsticks.” He shook his head with a smile before speaking, “Yes, they are connected so you don’t have to worry about dropping them. They also have little holes for you to put your fingers in to teach you how to hold them. Sunny’s have a little pororo on them its very cute.” 

“hey now, foul language will make you lose a star! better be good, joonki,” charlotte told him with a raise of her eyebrow, trying to keep a straight face and suppress the chuckle that she held in her throat. “of course. it was definitely not my fault. my chopstick skills are wonderful, you know that,” she teased the other with a grin. “why was i never aware of their existence. they sound so cute! yes, yes you should definitely bring them on saturday and i will use them just for the fact that they have a little pororo on them. the added things are just a bonus, of course.”

In retrospect, they should have planned their little outing a little better. Had they known what a trek it was to actually get onto the top of the hill, they probably would have left earlier. Still, it was all laughter and playful groaning as they ran up the steep trail, picnic gear in hand as they chased the view they had come for. “Hurry!” called Freya out, glancing back at her friend with a wide grin, “We’re gonna miss it!” / @lottiecaine​

they had agreed to meet up quite late in the afternoon, and as per usual lottie fashion, she wasn’t there on time either. which meant they were both rushing up a hill to catch a glimpse of the sunset before it was too late. the top was near, but lottie’s tiny legs were growing tired and admittedly she wasn’t the fittest person either. “i’m doing my best!” she called out, trying to catch her breath as she ran up the hill to catch up with her friend. “we will make it. i believe in us. we just need to run... run more.”

i always light up a scented candle whenever i’m in the room. my current obsession is coconut splash. i swear my room smells like paradise!
