He's technically been committing a crime for like 15-20 years.
I have so far only read the first three Lord Peter Wimsey murder mystery novels by Dorothy L. Sayers.
But in just those three, Lord Peter has experienced the following (this list contains vague spoilers):
severe PTSD night terror with a flashback to his experiences in WWI
administration of morphine to calm him down
shot in the street, collapses, hits his head, passes out
stuck in a mud swamp, slowly sinking, extremely cold, rescued by loyal friend
passes out from exhaustion and cold
feverish and near delirium, later wakes to find loyal friend has been watching over him
gets ridiculously drunk with another loyal friend in celebration of closing a case

Guys we deserve better. Seriously.
I finished the Granada version of Sherlock Holmes. Some cases were more interesting than others, but Jeremy Brett, David Burke/Edward Hardwicke, Colin Jeavons and Charles Gray were such highlights to watch. Brett is the Holmes - they got him straight out off the book! Watson was amazing, and while I do prefer Burke slightly more, Hardwicke was wonderful as well. I find it rather sad Holmes could never say "By the Lord, it is as well for you. If you had killed Watson, you would not have got out of this room alive." But it's understandable considering how ill Brett got throughout the course of the show. He seems a lot paler near the end of it, and it's not a surprise he died a year after the last season aired.
It's the most accurate version and it brings the books to life, and I love it.

This is your reminder today that Irene Adler in the original Conan Doyle story is literally not a criminal. She never commits a crime.
Nor is she a seductress in any kind of negative or manipulative sense - she has a mutual relationship with a powerful man who then breaks up with her, and afterwards she keeps protection against him in the form of evidence that the relationship existed. She HAS blackmail material, she even waves it at him threateningly because he treated her like shit, but she never even uses it.
Irene Adler is not a thief, femme fatale, or blackmailer. She's just a cool lady that wants to be left alone.
@delphi-star You do recall correctly!! She does not give a shit about that man! She's happily married! She tipped him for being a witness at her wedding!
If your Sherlock Holmes adaptation has a character whose identifying qualities are that she is a seductive criminal in love with Holmes, you have created a character that is basically the literal opposite of Irene Adler and you should name her something else.
She's also -- and I cannot stress this enough -- from New Jersey. IMO this is the single most important detail missing from all the adaptations -- IRENE ADLER IS FROM NEW JERSEY.
Please just once in my life I would like to see this adapted faithfully it would be the funniest fucking thing ever.
A very special @fandomtrumpshate piece for @spacemutineer, to illustrate their incredible time-loop story The Scientist's Method. I've always wanted to do a first meeting piece, and this was the most perfect opportunity to blend this iconic scene (featuring background redrawn from the original Hutchinson illustration) with spacemutineer's wonderful words. A long time ago, I did a few bits for some of their classic 60 for 60 stories, and it was fantastic to get the opportunity to work on something together again. Truly a marvellous project and we raised $150 for LA Foodbank!

Bluff - how unreliable a narrator is he/can he lie
Chuffed - is he happy to be there? Does he like hanging out with Holmes?
