so with stan being a virgin that goes into him and his depression and reluctance to form bonds with people without a long standing relationship previously established, he has a hesitation with romance and intimacy in general

I see him struggling with comp het, with his own sexuality, he has expectations of himself he can't meet, he has idealized notions of romance and when those notions are met with reality and don't match his expectations he loses interest and can't perform, doesn't want to and feels like the type to want to wait until he finds the right person and is in a commitment with them

and for him this person is kyle

so it's not so much that he's saving himself for kyle it's more that he's tried to have sexual experiences with exes or friends but couldn't go through with them because of his own hangups and never got very far

and with kyle to me I see it as, he's always got his brain on in situations so he might be the type to want to turn it off in one aspect that being sex where he can let loose and enjoy the experience

if we want to lean into a sad direction we can assume kyle has low self esteem and body issues stemming from trauma and I as someone who headcanons him as ftm trans and as a character with several moments in the show where he nearly dies maybe he's trying to reclaim a sense of self by being someone who finds confidence in his body and in being desired by others

if we want to go in a less sad direction for kyle we could make note that while he's not successful in romantic relationships maybe he divorces that aspect of it from sex, he doesn't need a relationship for that, he's confident in himself as a person he knows who he is he knows he's attractive, he likes sex he doesn't see it as this all or nothing high stakes thing, to him it's something that feels good it's fun to do that he can experience with girls, boys, with stan too maybe

like kyles not waiting around for stan either and I think maybe they're both hesitant to pursue any sexual activity with each other for personal reasons
