âThe breaded pork cutlet bento box is like mega power. More than ramen. Thatâs accurate.â

S: I donât know any ex-yakuza running orphanages. K: There was one a few years ago. A good guy. M: You sure it wasnât just a tax shelter? K: Sure it was a tax shelter but he ran it like a legitimate thing. You know.

if youâve been trained to to dislike yourself for enjoying anything due to years of being told youâre annoying clap your hands đđđ
if I listed out every particular instance that was met with negativity enough for me to stop feeling comfortable talking about it, this comic would be like 50 panels.

Okay so this is so important. Please donât ignore this post if you think it doesnât apply to you, because even if it doesnât, it could be happening to someone you care about. And it may seem like nothing, it feels like itâs nothing for a while but after hearing people say just how boring or dumb something you love is⌠well, you start to believe it. Before you realise it you find yourself not finishing stories or sentences because thereâs a voice in your head saying âshut up, no one caresâ and just like that those things you used to love so much lose their spark. They no longer make you as happy as before, everything is tainted and you hate yourself for not fitting in, for not being as interesting as everyone else. Because if everyone says you arenât then they must be right? But no! Itâs not true and you tell yourself that everytime, but itâs not enough. You have to learn to love the things you used to love again.
In my case, Iâve missed out on so many experiences because of this. I had given up trying to make people see the things I like arenât a waste of time. But Iâm slowly trying to claim them back.
So please, if someone you know ever tells you something about them or about what they like please listen to them. Even if you donât really enjoy the thing they are telling you about, if they matter to you please listen. That simple action could mean the whole world to them.
this is kinda painful tbh
This has happened to me more than once. It's insidious. It's actually most of the reason I have anxiety today. Don't ever, ever make somebody feel like they're annoying you for being passionate about something.

Casual players who are 'intimidated' by competitive play are players that don't spend much money on the game because it's not a game they care enough about to learn to play better, yet it seems they're the ones WOTC wants to alienate serious players (the money spenders) in favor of? TCGs are competitive by nature. The very point of them is to continuously spend money to get better cards so that you can win games. Discouraging players who follow that golden rule is discouraging money spending.
You are perpetuating all sorts of false stereotypes here. There are many different types of Magic players that play for different reasons. High-end Competition is one aspect but it is actually a tiny piece of the overall web of Magic players.
Anybody who says this has never watched a casual player buy 3 packs, then trade in the rares to get more packs, and repeat for like 20 minutes.
I'd like to make a request. An Iron Maiden... but with hands instead of spikes. Think about it.
why even stop there lets keep this awful finger train goin

Something the Hour of Devastation story did for me, that most of the block storylines really didnât, is make me actually scared of the villain. Nicol Bolas has always struck me as a kind of cartoony villain, somebody to be the foil to the Gatewatch. These stories really reinforced that no, he does not care about any notions of morality, and yes, he will kill a lot of living, breathing people to get what he wants, in a way that is not dramatic or satisfying, but in a way that crushes and destroys any thought that everything will be ok in the end. Thatâs a pretty powerful thing, narratively.

do you have any other interest besides gaming?
hwll no. its gamer time
You didn't actually answer paulapolos' question, so let me try re-wording it: How do you decide which complaints you hear are valid enough to make changes?
It comes down to a bunch of things:
1) As with âbadâ cards, is it something we are able to not do? If it has to happen, players complaining isnât going to stop it.
2) Is it the only viable path? Introducing Standard wasnât popular, but there were forces that were going to destroy Magic if we didnât act, so we didnât have much choice but to weather through the complaints.
3) Is it something that we feel the audience doesnât understand? Yes, changing the rules (Sixth Edition, Magic 2010, etc.) got negative reaction, but change tends to upset people and there was literally no way for players to understand the new thing without experiencing it. We had confidence that once they experienced it, theyâd like it and they did.
4) Is there a long term gain that players donât understand? Sometimes weâre doing something that takes time to pay off and we weather complaints until we reach the new state.
The rotation wasnât #1, we could not do it. It wasnât #2, we had other business options. It ended up not being #3 because players understand rotations and their dislike of them wasnât because it was a new thing they didnât understand.
#4 is the one we hoped to hang our hat on, but research showed that we overvalued the positivity of change to the environment and undervalued the negativity of people not being able to play the same deck for a long period of time. It turns out many players have more negative associations with rotations than positive. They understand they have to happen, but they want them to happen at the slowest rate possible.
The TLDR answer is that we have to gauge why players are upset and judge it against whether time will bring about change.
