The Eldrazi Get Up

I think my biggest complaint about the Odyssey (which I loved and you should see if if you haven't) (also, spoiler warning, for the MOVIE) (also please dont bean soup comment me, I'm trying to make this post as short as possible) was that the movie was about Odysseus' regrets and how they had become the sea people etc. Yet Nolan turned him into a very noble heroic character. And it just gets worse as the movie goes on, even as you see them killing civilians and making mistakes somehow Odysseus is still portrayed as just and kind to women and here's my issue: loyal to Penelope. Lol. Um no. He was cheating with any woman they encountered. I actually like the fact that he never slept with Circe, I felt that was some of the more solid writing in the movie, but what I didn't like was how he was there to not all men her, like see, theres good men out there like...Odysseus. The movie focused a lot on how this war has harmed women which was a really good take and yet they left out that when they were sacking this other city, the crew was taking women? and Odysseus was cheating left and right? Even if he wanted to make him try to be loyal, why not make there be some sort of conflict there? Why not make him at least have to resist temptation? He even made the sirens' song be about regret instead of seduction. I am okay with the changes he made to Polyphemus and the Laestrygonians but the story did make both of them seem kind of feral (even if Polyphemus was established to be able to speak) which I think takes away from the point Nolan was making that they had just become raiders and were raiding people. Someone said really well that Nolan keeps making these flawed male characters and then falling in love with them. I am fine with changing the story because you're allowed to! We do not know what the "original" story was! So I'm speaking just to the story it seemed like Nolan was trying to tell. I don't think any of this is wrong necessarily, just how I felt watching it.
