Since tumblr allows pinned posts now for free, I suppose I should put something together so that everyone knows what I’m about.

The alpha wolf itself doesnt exists(though there are ebsolutely species who fit that label, a male lion who has taken over a pride for example), and an actual wolfpacks leader is generally just a wolf dad and mom, with the rest of the pack being their kids. Those generally be the doggos in charge, not some young, domineering hothead.

Meanwhile, the term "Lone wolf" is usually used to describe cool, better than average individuals who has left the pack to strike it out on their own, not wanting to be burdened with others company.

Lone wolves, as Eddard stark so famously says, die alone, because EVERYTHING that makes them effective hunters are dependent on group strategies.

Its not even like the male lion who upon becoming old enough has to survive at least a year or two as an individual hunter before becoming big enough to take over a pack(The myth male lions dont hunt is bullshit by the way), no the lone wolf just genuinely cannot longterm function on its own in any enviornment where it has to genuinely compete.

They cant hunt larger prey, they are dominated by any animal that is bigger than them meaning if they are challenged for their food they often have to give it up like a cheetah does, they get picked on and killed by other wolfpacks that dont want competition, and to top it all, they dont even want to stay lone wolves.

Lone wolves are just wolves who have left the larger, original pack to find some other wolf to shag up with to make a pack of their own. Literarily the entire point of their existence is to find another wolf withouth a pack asap and join with them.

It is literarily everything opposite of what the term "lone wolf" implies XD

But "lone wolf bars" just don't really sell themselves, you know? XD

Im not familiar with it, so i cant say, but He-man had an actual conflict right? It wasnt just the all memetic comedy all the time.

I dont think the short lived darker and edgier reboot from the early 2000's would be as fondly remembered by the fanbase if it was a complete aberration from what the franchise was and returned to later.

Especially now, i just dont see a meme He-man could ever make it considering how utterly tired most audiences are of this style of storytelling.

I mean, the original He-Man was a cartoon squarely aimed at kids, to an even greater degree than the likes of Transformers and GIJoe. He-Man never actually used that sword on his enemies. It did have humor, even slapstick aimed at the baddies, and there's definitely a camp element to it.

But yes, there were battles between Good Guys and Bad Guys in the original cartoon. The movie replicates that, albeit with less personality for any baddie not named Skeletor.

But the thing about the new movie isn't that it's a jokey action-comedy. It's that it utterly despises everything about the original cartoon and mercilessly ridicules it at every opportunity. It's mean-spirited. And that mockery is completely unclever and unobservant for anyone who has been on the internet at any point in their lives.

And the humor that isn't a mean-spirited takedown of the original cartoon is just a rip-off of the Thor movies.

The worst part, though, isn't really the action-humor thing. That's just annoying. The really bad stuff is the part of the movie that tries to be serious. Clearly, at some point, someone involved in this production looked at the live-action Barbie movie and decided that they wanted to do a commentary on a fundamental aspect of gendered society in the form of an iconic children's toy, too- except He-Man isn't a toy like that for boys, and the people writing the script don't actually have any coherent thoughts on gender, masculinity, and/or society, so the whole thing is a confused mess with muddled themes that takes some potshots at millennial stereotypes and comes across as pretentious for failing to make any actual point besides, "Give power to weak people, I guess, because they'll be better at it? For reasons?"

(This despite the fact that the pieces of a theme about the interplay between fear and desire for power/strength are already right there in the script, but apparently no one was interested in that.)

Before we get to the prompts, I have to deal with The Cringe. When you gaze upon these, keep in mind that I have delusions of being clever and a tendency to over-engineer things. I wanted Maikka Week to be as accessible as possible, and I thought the way to do that was:

Extend the 'Week' into a Fortnight, so there is more time for people to participate.

Provide more prompts than can be used for the event, so that people can pick and choose the ones they like without feeling an obligation to do all of them. And since we're doing a Maikka Fortnight, I have to make sure I have more than 14 prompts so that people will get that they don't need to do everything.

The end result was an intimidating two weeks and 21 prompts that no one knew how to react to except the friends who just made their best efforts to indulge me and the few actual Maikka fans who decided to persevere despite my efforts. This is why I included an option in that poll for "Loopy shouldn't be leader of Maikka."

(But those people did produce some good stuff, so my regrets are minimal despite my humorously self-deprecating presentation of this history.)

Now, with the mess you're about to see explained, here's 84 'theme' prompts and 10 "gosh I hope this ideas sparks someone's creativity but I don't know what people who draw actually go for" prompts:

So it would be revealed that the Legion's main foe, The Time Trapper was responsible for Superboy existing Post-Crisis. Trapper had another potential threat to his power in the form of another Legion villain Mordru (Who did appear way back in that live action Superfriends type show Legends of the Super Heroes in 78). But rather than a possible loss in direct combat, he would create or ensure the Legion's existence so he would have a means to combat the sorcerer that wouldn't be tied to him.

But after a few years of the revelation, mandate was made to reboot the Legion so that they could remove any trace of the Clark Kent/Superboy. Which they did. Though it needed to ultimately be kept cause Byrne would have Superman go there attempting to save it from some released Phantom Zone criminals by that world's Lex Luthor who thought they were merely trapped in it.

Ultimately they still end all life in the Pocket Universe Earth and Superman infamously uses Kryptonite to execute them since no one aside from a weakened Matrix Supergirl made by Lex can give them any sentence. Not to mention like Superboy, they were uber strong as Earth-1 Pre-Crisis Kryptonians. Heck Supergirl who brought Superman up to date was sent to the main Earth in the past until Superman could find her. Lex's rationale was Superman could go back in time to find her (That ended up happening ala Captain America being freed by ice) not aware of Superman's more limited might compared to Superboy.

Yeah as an aside, while obviously Superboy wouldn't be kept alive after the Pocket Universe reveal, you might think Lex's teen history Pre-Crisis would be kept, but in this continuum he never made it to Smallville until Superboy's disappearance/death.

So yeah, Pocket Universe was the place of origin for Matrix Sueprgirl, but also as Superman felt guilt for having to be executioner, he exiled himself into space where he would meet The Eradicator who would bring him back to life after The Death of Superman. So the Pocket Universe had to be kept. Originally it was to preserve Legion history as much as possible since the book was a big deal then, but now had to be kept for Superman's continuity.

And ruining the streamlining is that yeah as acknowledging in-universe, Superman has met several different Legion revisions within a few short years.😅

Now for the other example less confusing, but still defeats the purpose for itself, Superman no longer being a founding JLA member. Considering how DC trembles at the idea of giving non-iconic heroes spotlight, I can't really hate the idea of trying the JLA with all but the trinity.

Problem sort of is lack of commitment. They want to have the group making it without the trinity, but in wanting to keep as many stories as possible they set Superman up as having been a League ally since some stories couldn't play out if someone with his powers was absent. So you might as well have kept Superman at least as a member since you could barely minimize his involvement with the group.😋

Oh, this is glorious. I've known about Matrix/Supergirl- I actually read the Death of Superman and Return of Superman storylines when they were coming out, and my brother even has an issue of Superman where he's angsting about having killed Zod. But I had no idea about the ties to Superboy and the Legion!

NONE of them EVER were true clean slates, where they actually went through with just accepting everything that came before as non factors and this is the entire universe now.

Post crisis had superman and batman have plenty of elements from pre crisis, and while they rewrote their settings and characters, and gave them fullblown newly remade origins, they didnt do so in a way that you could just go to post crisis point and go from here.

The new fifty two had the problem that... well its real problem was that it generally sucked ass, but also it kept around plenty of batman lore and ALL the new green lantern lore from previous years.

I could go on, but the point is clear that DC never truly in their hearts of hearts were committed to just reworking their universe once and for all, and so every single reboot had another, worse reboot come after it at some point.

After crisis, they should have just committed, and effectively restarted every single character from bottom up(Not relaunch numbered issues, but definitly a defacto new starting point For EVERYONE), and maybe they wouldnt have felt the constant need to "Fix" the issues each new reboot created, all the way up until we got to the insanity and stupidity that was Batman who laughs, and all that followed his introduction.

I have not read anything from DC since before the Nu52 (aside from a Rebirth Suicide Squad one-shot by John Ostrander), so I've been sitting on the sidelines watching in consternation as The Batman Who Laughs has become the face of the universe while looking like such an off-putting concept. While I admittedly have never talked to any of the people lining up to get signatures from Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, I have yet to actually encounter anyone who likes the concept. It's one of the most unpopular popular things I've ever seen in comics.

But yeah, while I don't demand perfect continuity from comics (after all, I do prefer Marvel and its don't-worry-about-it-sliding-timeline thing), DC's weird obsession with it while never actually keeping things tidy can be exhausting. There's a pathetic need to try to have it all, desperately clinging to the aging obsessive die-hard fans while also feinting towards the concept of attracting new readers, all without realizing that new readers are probably going to react more to tone and storytelling style than any level of backstory.
