Example of a comic for a class I taught at my local library. This was specifically constructed so I could talk about panel construction, panels within panels, and the amount of time you are meant to linger on each different type of panel. The focus was on comics as language; sure, you read the text and the images, but the way the panels are put together tell you how to “read” the scene itself. For example, the moment where the main character sees Marine for the first time and we see her full body is clearly meant to make our eye linger. What does that say about the way the main character is looking at her? Is the cat main character surprised? yes! Does she like the look of this person? yes!
