[ ] For father's day, Gabe always got a handmade card from David. They initially started with wobbly letters of a kindergartener who barely could hold a pencil in his hand, then they turned more professional, but they never lost the love that was put into them. David found the box stashed with every single one kept intact, when he was clearing his things after his passing. Gabe never threw away a single one, a memento forever cherished in his heart despite the stick figures of him and David barely looking similar to the real ones.

[ ] Frank once spent a father's day at the ER with sniffling Asher on his lap because they boy got an amazing idea of climbing yet another tree (as if the first accident didn't teach him anything). Feeling guilty about the ruined day, he kept crying quietly, but Frank only kept wiping his tears and saying it was fine and he didn't make him upset. He was worried more about the fractured bone than the "ruined day" and gift that was waiting for him at home (Ash got him a model of a car with the money he got while selling lemonade with his sister)

[ ] If Milo can recall any good moments from his childhood about father's day, it was that one time he came home from school, later than usual, tired and hungry, to see a bag with a note by the door to the apartment he and his Ma lived in. Gabe didn't have to, but still made sure that the boy ate a homemade meal when his mother worked the night shifts. French toast tastes good even if reheated, and the bottle of maple syrup made it all better. The rest of the delicious leftovers were saved for another meal. He made sure to thank him the next time they saw each other, hug offered to someone who may have not been his dad, but deserved the appreciation of being one.

[ ] William knew nothing about the tradition since he did not care or had any children of his own, but once, after a prolonged absence, his office was cleaned. Not as in "everything thrown away and sparkling" but it was organised. Stacks of documents stored in cardboard boxes, the projects, and ongoing transactions all piled in one place, sorted by date. The whole room aired out, fire already lit up in the fireplace. The only thing he had to do was to sit down and work. No one said anything, but he sensed the faint traces of magic used by his progenies. (I wonder how he would feel if he knew most of them hate him now)

Asher was a dinosaur kid (let’s be honest, he still is)

Sweetheart is a slut for interior design. Their apartment is impeccably decorated, and it’s one of the first things that really attracted Milo to them.

Tank and Sam are a birdwatching couple. They keep a shared journal of the birds they see and will text each other photos of birds that they see when they’re apart.

David isn’t just a great cook, he’s like a gourmet level fucking chef. Every meal he creates is a masterpiece and he’s so nonchalant about it.

Meanwhile Angel is a skilled practitioner of ikebana, often curating specific arrangements for their loved ones. David and Angel’s house always has a few on display.

Baabe has a tongue piercing and Asher thinks it’s the hottest thing on the planet.

Milo and Tank made a pact when they were teenagers that they’d never drink/do drugs, and they’ve both never broken that promise.

The subject of most of Milo and Sweetheart’s arguments (of which there are very few to begin with) is Aggro and how much Milo spoils him.

Asher has depression, anxiety, and ADHD and goes to therapy and takes medication. He’s only ever told Baabe about his diagnoses, and that was only after they found his meds. He doesn’t want anyone to worry about him or have another reason to question his position as beta.

Tank is allergic to a bunch of different types of food, they just don’t know. It’s not until they say something strange in front of Sam that they learn that food is not supposed to hurt.

The words echoed in Darlin’s mind as they crawled. The wounds stained their white fur a deep red, but it didn’t reflect the pain in their heart.

Pain from leaving everything they knew. Pain taking so fucking long to leave. Pain from realising they wasted a good two years of their life at a standstill in a cage.

For now, they crawled. Anything to get out of that place.

One paw in front of the other.

They stopped to drink water at a nearby lake, only to find the reflection in the water staring back at them.

Darlin’ couldn’t recognise themself.

They looked weak. Frail. They prided themself on their strength, but it looked like they didn’t have any. Their white fur was gone, stained with blood.

The red wolf. One they’ve seen a few times before. Painted in pain and anger, their own blood staining their purity, or what even was left of it.

The last time they saw the red wolf, they met someone. A tall man whose eyes and fangs look like they could kill, yet his hands were soft. So soft.

He healed them. Closed the wounds and stopped the red from flowing to their fur. He washed it out of their fur.

Blood stains, though. They weren’t clean yet.

“…If you start feeling worse again, call me. Got it? Good. Take care of yourself. Since I won’t be around to do it for you.”

No one is coming to save you.

The words still echoed in their mind.

Despite everything, Sam stuck around. Let them run into the middle of trouble, but stayed behind them to help.

Darlin’ had left everything they knew, rushing into the unknown to escape the trauma.

But now they found a new familiar. In Sam.

In his gentle hands. In the way he’d come running when they called. In the way he’d say no, but would help them anyway.

In the way they could put one paw in front of the other, and know that he was right behind them.

They had a home to go to.

They had a pack.

They had a reason.
