I find it very interesting that at the end of the episode we see Gambit’s playing cards turn into tarot, so let me share my interpretation of the scene. Three cards are highlighted during the scene: Death, The Tower, The Lovers. Past, present, future.
Death, his past. It indicates transformation, in this case I think it represents the “death” of the old Gambit. The thief who joined the x-men to fight for something bigger than himself.
The Tower symbolizes destruction, his present. It represents the moment his old identity collapses, his death and sacrifice. Then his resurrection as a horseman.
The Lovers, his future. It represents love, choice and reconciliation. This card definitely points toward Rogue, their connection and love for each other. It could indicate that choices will be made in Remy’s future, not just about his love but about the person he wants to become after given this second chance. Whatever he chooses, Rogue will love him anyway.
He died, got his world shattered but what remains of him will be defined by love.
