Only the echo of water droplets striking stone accompanied Elaine as she walked between ancient columns worn down by time. The deeper she ventured, the colder the air became. Heavier. As though this place had remained forgotten for centuries.
At the center of an underground chamber, illuminated by a faint ray of light filtering through a crack in the ceiling, rested an ancient vessel: the Canopic Jar of Horus.
Elaine picked it up and examined the inscriptions.
"Tsk… the lettering is so tiny." She tried to brush away the dust covering its surface.
The cavern began to tremble.
An ancient roar echoed through the chamber as the gems embedded in the vessel flared to life. Dark clouds of smoke burst from within, twisting toward the ceiling like living shadows. An ancient presence was awakening. A power forgotten by the ages. An entity capable of altering the fate of the world.
Elaine took a step back, ready to draw her sword.
And in the middle of all that completely unjustified happiness appeared Horus.
Elaine blinked once.
She looked at the jar and at Horus repeatedly.
"You're the ancient entity?"
"Who else would it be? I am the one, the only, the incomparable… and also quite charming."
He spread his wings, showering the cavern with even more confetti as signs, arrows, and absurdly flashy typography appeared around him.
Elaine stared in disbelief. She had crossed an entire ocean to find the legendary being said to dwell within this ancient relic…
And apparently, she had found him.
"Right… so you're Horus. I'm here because…"
"Tell meee! Do you like ducks?"
"Oh, I love your enthusiasm!"
Out of nowhere, he produced a gloomy-looking duck with fangs sticking out of its beak.
"This is one of my favorite toys! I found him in a faraway land full of monsters, macabre things, and all sorts of stuff. Wanna pet him? He doesn't bite… usually."
Elaine was rapidly losing patience.
"GET THAT INFERNAL THING AWAY FROM ME! AND LISTEN! I'm here because I was told you're a genie capable of granting wishes!"
"Ummm…" Horus tapped his beak thoughtfully while smiling to one side. "To be fair, they informed you correctly. They simply forgot to mention the emotional hazards~ 😏"
"You…" growled Elaine, clenching her claws.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. 😆
This little scene kept playing in my head over and over again while I was drawing this piece.
When I asked @will0thew1sp about Horus's lamp, she told me it didn't have a very specific design and gave me some creative freedom to play around with the idea. That's when I thought of making it a canopic jar instead, and I liked the idea of giving it a more serious and ancient-looking design to contrast with Horus himself. n_n
I had a lot of fun working on this one. 😊
