in the middle of the night last summer i decided i was giving myself one more year for shit to start looking up. i'd halfheartedly tried to kill myself before, when i was still in high school and trying to figure out if anything in the medicine cabinet was strong enough, or if my mom's ceiling would hold my weight long enough, or if this time i could finally cut deep enough. i never could and one night i sat on the couch listening to johnny thunders and i set a reminder on my phone because i was tired of being a pussy and i wanted to be gone. it's a stupid way to do it, but i had two months to eighteen and i didn't think i'd make it and anything was better than nothing. but i did make it and i wasnt any happier for a while. and today i woke up early, two months to nineteen and getting ready to have breakfast with my boyfriend. we split a blueberry hand pie from the restaurant i work at and i made us fried eggs in toast. i walked him to work and kissed him goodbye and read the picture of dorian gray in the sun and went home happy. i thought about what to make for lunch and got the notification on my phone. my year ends today and i'm supposed to stop being a pussy and kill myself if shit hasn't started looking up, but i'm one lucky bastard. i can still taste blueberries and sun on my mouth and i'm gonna make shitty pasta for lunch and hang out with my boyfriend after work. all that to say, i picked up a shift tomorrow and i plan on making it.
