August 14 2017 - Protesters in Durham, North Carolina decide to take matters into their own hands and take down a confederate statue. 

The statue represented a soldier who fought in the Civil War and an inscription on the front read “The Confederate States of America.” 

Did any of you go to art school? Do you remember what happened the (multiple times) people destroyed art to try and censor thought and history? Something that is STILL going on in several countries right now, which is so bad that we have to take those artifacts OUT of those countries and bring them to our own to preserve them and keep them from being destroyed?

Part of the rise to power for the Nazis in Germany was fueled by open violence and brawling between communists and national socialists. Hitler basically got his foot in the door through a very weak coalition government and got his position as a dictator because people were sick of a bunch of young communists and brown shirts fighting and killing each other in the streets.

If they’re genuine nazi types that have the potential to get into the government they have historically ALWAYS used to this to their advantage.

And even if, realistically, they stand no chance of actual meaningful political influence, if a normal dude sees someone get ambushed and get the boots put on them on the street, they’re not going to think “oh what awesome heroes they are, taking down that horrible neo nazi”. They’re going to think “holy shit they’re wailing on that poor fucker. I’d better go before I’m next!”

what a lot of these political extremists and ignorant slacktivists that advocate punching nazis don’t get is that ordinary people are absolutely sickened by violence.

violence is not a norm in a healthy society. it’s an aberration.

societies where violence is the norm are terrifying, horrible places.

The movie starts off with Ellen who is extremely underweight getting kicked out of treatment because she does not want to recover. Pretty much everyone around her has given up on her. There is a scene with her counting calories but as far as I remember no weights were actually mentioned. It throws some dark humor on a pretty tragic scenario.. There is also shots of Ellens body which could potentially be triggering. I wouldn’t describe Ellen as pro ana. she definitely is not enthusiastic about recovering.

Basically we follow Ellen through a few weeks of her life while she stays in an entirely unconventional treatment setting and hitting her personal “rock bottom” before her deciding she is actually ready to attempt recovery. I felt The movie did a good job at showing that anorexia is not actually about losing weight and being skinny. And also that it is not as simple as “just eating” we also see glimpses of other eating disorder sufferers and their behaviors while she stays in treatment.

It even touches on how influential tumblr blogs can be on other people. 

The movie has an open ending in terms of her recovery as we all no its not as simple as “I’m recovered”

I personally felt that some moments in the begining were potentially triggering but by the end I wasn’t feeling triggered.  For lack of a better word.
