El being a character who has suffered endless abuse, lost her mother and wants a found family/sense of belonging more than anything? Well, she's an ET reference, and ET goes home at the end of the movie so she has to go away too!

Time travel references? Those weren't actually there to foreshadow or say anything about the themes of the story, they were just there because Back to the Future was awesome!

Bowie's "Heroes", which first plays during the "death" of our queer main character, comes back in the finale not because it has anything to do with his story, but because it's a popular 80s song we all love!

A Wrinkle in Time? Which we all thought was setting up the emotional themes of the season? Nope, we're actually just doing a literal copy of the travel to other planets and evil hivemind plots from the book. Only in our version, the heroes save the day with guns and magic powers, not love and anti-conformity.

Dungeons and Dragons? Will being a sorcerer NOT a wizard because his powers are innate? We actually just had Mike say that three times because nerds being pedantic about details is funny (even though sorcerers didn't exist in the 80s), not to say anything about Will's character or his relationship with Mike. Also Mike the Brave being a paladin, protector and the "heart of the party" is done by ep4.

It was mainly pearl clutching tumblr libs with right-wing evangelical christian ideas about sex who hated it. On top of that, most of the people who hated it never even watched it. The show supports trans people, openly talked about consent, was informative about genital hygiene, was super supportive of girls sexual development and insisted on kids taking responsibility for their actions as well as seeing sexual partners as people - not just objects. It's quite literally some of the most radical sex ed ever.

But some of you dunked on it cause it had an 'ugly' art style - as though that wasn't on purpose to stop actual creeps from being able to ruin this genuinely informative show with scores of underage internet fap.

first, that scheduling the show release on the solstice wasn't only a nod to the book, it was because that's right in the middle of winter break for school age kids and not only was the young cast probably not missing as much school to attend events, but also school-age viewers won't have work so they can just bingewatch the show all day long
