Sarah Joncas’ “Pathetic Fallacy” at Hashimoto Contemporary NYC.

Opening on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York City is artist Sarah Joncas’ absolutely incredible solo exhibition, “Pathetic Fallacy.”

By definition, the term ‘pathetic fallacy’ defines the attribution of human feelings and responses to inanimate things or animals. This term is especially utilized to define techniques in art and literature. For her latest body of work, Joncas created a series of twenty-one new portraits, primarily in oil and acrylic paint, exploring the device of pathetic fallacy. Meticulously rendered figures are bathed in light, with the skin taking on a bright, almost translucent quality. Nymph-like figures are adorned with flowers and delicately ornate accessories, with hair that is softly tousled and cascading down their shoulders. Beautiful faces with tranquil, dreamy expressions stare off into the distance, lost in their own thoughts and universes.

The exhibition will be on view until August 24th, 2019 and should be sought out if you’re in the area.

My paintings or renders are an escape from the world which is full of terror and sad realities. I have a special place for Purple and Blue as it helps me to seek calmness around me. I love working with silhouettes cause sometimes you can show more with fewer details. Most of the paintings are without references as I try to translate my thoughts into art.
