you know i'm still not over the forbidden colours thing. if this was set today it would be an older manosphere influencer coming across a young early 20s gay guy from a very traditional family who has a gf (good family where you're sure to get a job in the company) and unsure what to do since he doesn't want to be with her. and convincing him that his lack of desire for women is exactly what he needs to pull them and improve his standing and masculinity or whatever these people say and use him to "get back" at women that rejected the manosphere guy personally with all the heinous things that have been in the news the past years. so not only is he cheating on his plain jane wife with the women he's playing, but also still cruising and going to gay clubs on the dl but also very clearly resenting being "part of the community" and looking down on visibly gay men. and this guy is miserable all the way through but he just keeps going for absolutely no reason. and imagine this for 400 pages interspersed with monologues from a manosphere podcast host

my grandma asking me innocuously what type of wedding gowns i like~ as if not expecting to marry ever wouldn't give me ridiculously high standards... of course as a Girl who likes fashion (tm) i have thought about this as a kid a lot and being not like the other girls (tm) I would want a custom costume based around crimson red, inspired by local folk fashion from where my grandma is from. but i guess apart from that i would want a classy vintage gown style (50s or earlier) with rich hand crafted details #quietluxury

also now that i had this experience where i asked so many people for insight and having people be so vague and then in person telling me all that tea and how this professor moves makes me so scared for my next interviews with less established people/people with less students so there's no one to ask really what they're like...

i don't know if i need to actually write a rejection email to this professor because i'm actually dumbfounded how he talks about his students, current or graduated... i'm actually inclined to believe when his students said he's close to losing it like hello? why are you throwing shade on a girl that graduated from almost a decade ago and is on her 2nd postdoc... plus i literally emailed this girl for advice on him before my visit and she was so nice she replied within minutes twice much more diplomatically speaking than him.... hope she's living her best life in england rn
