10 Year Old Wins International Jewellery Design Competition
September 2016, Bolton, UK - Lizzyanthus is very proud to announce that one of its future designers has won her first jewellery design competition at the very young age of 10.
Indira, the daughter and niece of Lizzyanthus’ founders, Chryssanthi & Elizabeth (respectively), won first place in the Under 18 - Jewellery Lover category of the High Street By Design competition. Her younger sister, Freya (8 years) also came runner up, with her design being Highly Commended.
Hosted by jewellers F. Hinds, the globally recognised competition received entries from as far afield as Zambia, Saudi Arabia, Japan and America. The competition was judged by a prestigious panel of six, with the winning design being manufactured for sale, both online and in F. Hinds’ 118 high street stores.
The judging panel unanimously voted for Indira’s ‘Heart Stars Bracelet’, which features a silver-framed, heart shaped blue crystal, and two star engraved beads that are embellished with pink stones.
As the winner of her category, Indira was invited to attend a special ceremony at the 2016 International Jewellery London (IJL) exhibition in September, where she was presented with the first manufactured model of her ‘Heart Stars Bracelet’ by Andrew Hinds, Director/Gold and Diamond Buyer at F. Hinds.
When asked to describe how the inspiration for her design came about, Indira commented: “I have always enjoyed drawing hearts and stars because of their shapes; and this inspired me to design a bracelet containing both. I wanted to add some colour so I chose pretty pink stones to make the stars sparkle and a bright blue for the heart.”
Continuing, Indira said “I enjoyed working with everyone at F. Hinds to make my design become a real bracelet. When I was told I had won the jewellery competition, I was speechless. It was even better when I heard my sister’s design came runner up, so we could celebrate together.”
Indira’s and Freya’s mum added “I am so proud of my daughters. When we learnt that Indira’s jewellery design had won, and that Freya’s design had been Highly Commended by the judges too, I was astounded – and still am. It has been an amazing experience for the whole family, from hearing the result of the competition, right through to seeing Indira presented with a finished model of her bracelet. The bracelet is absolutely stunning; and the F. Hinds representatives were very helpful and supportive throughout.”
