Part 2 of my summer yubinuki project!
This little set are characterised by working in both directions! the first is a mirror image, but all the dark brown in the others is stitched to the left, and the others to the right.

Finished stitching my Oversight series.
12 small embroidered poem-objects in wool, linen, cotton, silk, stitched on canvaswork mesh and edged in glass beads.
I have gotten lots questions about whether folks could use the words/images from my Oversight series, so I wrote a short blog post about my process and a quick note about reuse. Link here: https://www.pardalotemakes.com/process/oversight
The TLDR: yes, yes you can do whatever you like with it.
I also have CC0 images on my flickr if that's easier: https://www.flickr.com/photos/pardaloteflits/albums/72177720333846395
ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves
back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore
if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??
don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM
so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!
this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together
and then in the end you put it together like this!!
and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
EVERYONE START GETTING MORE USE OUT OF YOUR SPACE NOW!!!!
My favorite part of youtube is the part of it that is middle-aged-to-old guys with zero production value who have made a simple, low-quality video on their phones about how to repair the exact fucking appliance that has been giving me grief so I can fix that fucker myself instead of spending hundreds of dollars to hire someone.
These men are all my honorary uncles and I love them.
i don't know how to say this without being all 'kids these days' BUT kids do seem more sheltered nowadays regarding reading. all the kids' chapter books are called something like 'sir poops-a-lot and the massive fart' and people are absolutely vehement that a teenager can't read wicked because of its (nonexistent) smut and on threads right now people are seriously having a debate about whether 12 year olds can read ya books. when i was in year seven reading flowers in the attic was a rite of passage and now people are afraid of preteens knowing about the existence of sex.
The way the language has gotten so much more simplistic in middle grade books is insane to me. My friend and I were reading the first chapter of Goose Girl and I realized it would be edited to hell to make it short attention span friendly.
Nevermind the shit in Animorphs and Warrior Cats! Itβs good for kids to read about difficult topics. Being a kid is difficult. Difficult things happen to you whether or not youβre allowed to read about it.
In one of the Percy Jackson myth books, which are Greek myths narrated by Percy, the book discusses how Poseidon raped Demeter. Percy basically looks directly into the camera and says βif something like this happens to you, please tell someone.β
What are kids with high reading levels supposed to read other than adult books? I read Interview with a Vampire at like 11 and it didnβt traumatize me. I just went βoh wow yikes. With his mother?!! okay moving onβ
I like this article because itβs not what you think it is.

Not complaining at all. Because challenges make my brain happy when y can try to solve and troubleshoot. But I have NOTES. Hot mess backstage, no known way to get the audio and the lights to be controlled from in front of the stage. Proposed to use a video call to see what's happening behind me. Success!
Training consisted of 10 minutes of: this is how you create a cue/copy a cue/record a cue. Was able to create a sequence of cues. Very limited in what I could do with lights, so it was merely changing colors or turning them on or off in different arrangements. But it was working. So hurray!
Poking around made me discover how to hook computer to the shortest aux cable for line in. Now we had a way to get the audio for the music tracks. Started with looking for the MP3 in my PC folder, and waiting for Windows player to open each one . That sucked. Soundshow.exe to the rescue!!!! Audio cues were then available at the touch of a button! Did I learn to use much else on that? Nope. But I learned enough!
Found microphones, but we were never able to figure out how many of the dozens of plugs actually worked to hook them up, had no monitor for sound, had no wireless microphones to be found, and the wires mikes we found require almost licking them for them to pick up sound, so they were not going to work for picking up dialogue. Next year improvements!
And I did it. And realized if something had happened to me, there would have been no backup, which would have been terrible. We had a minimal team of adults.
Performance went well and now ...it's done? No more until next year?
Huge list of improvements to come and hopes and dreams, but this was a great experience.
everyone u reblog is safe right? i feel like u reblog a lot of ppl and i just want to make sure ur vetting them all first,,,

undiagnosed autistic people will be like "I don't get upset when my routine changes though!!" and it's because they've built a set of if-then loops in their head to pick from one of 6 different strict routines and they do get incredibly upset when they're unable to keep to any of the 6 scripts. This is called a fault tree. You will always know how to act if your fault tree captures all possible scenarios. In NASA Mission Control during mission critical events like landings there are huge binders with fault tree protocols, kind of like choose your own adventure books except youβre not the one making the choices, the universe is making them for you and youβre just trying to keep up.
The engineers who develop fault trees, I am told, often imagine new ways for their precious spacecraft to die (new branches on the fault trees) either while in the shower or lying awake at 3am, because human
Was just thinking about this the other day. Yeah I have a favorite seat on the bus (middle of the bus, near the back doors, slightly elevated, facing forward), but I donβt get upset if someone is already sitting there, I just pick one of my other favorite spots. Then I realized that most people probably donβt have a favorite bus seat, let alone a series of backup favorites.

If you've been thinking about backing the Kickstarter for THE WISDOM OF EMPERORS and you're in the market for a hardback but you haven't decided if you're going to get the standard hardback or the Collector's Edition, you're gonna want to read today's update, where I explain a LOT about how book production quality has gone down in the last 15 years, and what the Collector's Edition is doing differently in order to give you simply a better fucking product.
This is also relevant to anyone who cares about books and is curious to learn about this kind of weird stuff.
