I hate to have to make this post but both Primrose and Petal have passed over to Rainbow Bridge.

On New Years Eve, Petal was having trouble breathing and an x-ray showed her heart was three times the size it was meant to be, and her lungs were working at a quarter capacity. The kindest treatment for her was to end her suffering and have her put to sleep.

Two weeks later, Primrose had severely deteriorated. The grief of losing her life long sister was taking its toll, combined with dental and eye issues. She lost 30g in a week and her coordination was all over the place. An x-ray discovered she was missing a molar meaning eating was uncomfortable, and her lungs weren't letting in as much oxygen as they should have been. At this point, I'd been hand feeding her for two weeks, she showed no interest in eating unless I physically held food in front of her nose, and painkillers weren't doing anything- her little body was simply shutting down. Again, the kindest thing to do was to have her put to sleep as she was clearly suffering and uncomfortable.

I miss my original girls horribly. They helped me through an incredibly tough patch in my life and I owe everything to them.

Training is a great way to bond with your rats. I've always tried to do little bits with my rat kids to keep their brains engaged and their focus on me (and the food I'm holding). Here's Primrose demonstrating "circle" with the aid of some sweetcorn. She's my most engaged with training and is always eager to show off.
