The marvel films, they are all marked by the hollowness of the studio. It's what Marty and I were trying to get away from in the 70s, these hulking behemoths who just made film after film, chewing up actors, directors, what have you. I feel very bad for the people making these films now because the films they make...they are not theirs, in any substantial way. Gorcharov, that's my film, that's Marty's film, that's the film of Al and Robert and Cindy and all the other actors there. It was a collaborative process, which let humanity shine through. Disney's idea of humanity is to have every actor talk like a writers room, it's so crude, and the way...I was one of the first Italian directors to make a uh, a gay film, in the early 80s, not because I am gay but because they have humanity! and the way they say first gay this and first gay that, but without the sense of struggle, without the pain, without the humanity. To them, gay is another advertising term among others.
