“How are you feeling?” Elsa managed. “Much better.” They took a step closer and gently took her hand in theirs. “Thank you, really.” Elsa bit her lip. She looked down at their laced fingers, then back up at them. “Marc told me what happened. What those men said.” Jack scratched the back of their head. “I know I shouldn’t have punched them. Violence in never the answer, but–” “No, it is,” she said matter-of-factly. “Sometimes, anyway. It’s the only language those monsters understand.” Jack knit their brow pensively. “I wanted to beat them up as well,” she confessed. “Last night, after you fell asleep. I genuinely considered going over to their place and fucking them up for what they did to you. I knew I could get their descriptions from the staff at the Wolfsbane, and I still know where most of the members live–” “And what stopped you?” Jack interrupted. “Layla did. She said you still needed help... which you did.” “And if I hadn’t?” “Then I’d probably be in a jail cell right now.” She tried a rueful smile. “Unless I got lucky.” Jack closed the distance between them, holding both of her hands. “I’m glad you’re not in jail cell,” they said. “I’m glad you’re here.” As Jack’s breath mingled with hers, all Elsa could think about was the heat in the pit of her stomach. She looked down at their lips, then back up into those gorgeous eyes of theirs. “Jack,” she breathed. “Yeah?” “Can I kiss you?”
