Naruto is begging to go to a festival and he wants Shika to take him. Shikamaru is reluctant, to say the least, because it's noisey, hot and just too troublesome to break out the formal Nara yukata he would absolutely be expected wear.

Naruto turns up the puppy dog eyes and Shikamaru just folds. "Okay, okay, okay! I'll pick you up at 7!"

Shikamaru never realized Naruto hadn't ever been to the Big festivals in Konoha because of how the adults treated the jinchuuriki when they were younger. When he learns this fact he has them play every game, try all the snacks and when the fireworks start he kisses Naruto, just a quick press of lips on lips, you know, for the complete experience.

Naruto is just having a great time, he's only been to bigger festivals on his travels with Jiraiya, and while they were fun, he was always was alone. Now Shikamaru is with him and they're playing games, eating all the food, and not once has Shika said it was troublesome or a drag. He feels so giddy, overflowing with happiness, he doesn't even know when he grabbed Shikamaru's hand.
