Au where a broken Naruto gets thrown into another dimension after everyone else dies and ANBU era Kakashi finds him on a mission passed out, clearly Uzumaki with his red hair, and covered in seal tattoos.
He brings him back to konoha, drops him off in T&I and tries to forget about him.
It absolutely doesn’t work because he gets called in to try and get a response out of the guy since even when he woke up all he did was stare blankly ahead of him. Inoichi mind walked him and while he didn’t get a whole lot it was apparently enough to say he’s either from another dimension, the future, or got locked in the worlds most horrifying genjutsu his whole life.
As insane as it sounds, the first two were the most likely.
The guys remembers a whole future of war and loss and friendship and survival and…him. Apparently they got married just a few months before his counterpart died.
When he walks into the interrogation room, the change is immediate.
Empty eyes abruptly focus and a previously blank face brightens as the man tilts his head back to scent the air.
Before anyone can blink, he’s darting across the room towards kakashi, nose already pressed against his masked neck and inhaling deeply by the time the others start to react.

Kakashi would be lying if he said he didn’t reflexively scent the Uzumaki back. And he smells good. Perfect really. Like warmth and sun and him.
How many times did his counterpart claim him for his scent to carry after his death and into a different dimension?
Wants to claim him so throughly nothing could wash it off.
Based on the soft sigh the Uzumaki lets out when his grip tightens on him, he might just be allowed to.
After all, he’s still Hatake kakashi. Past, future, another dimension. They’re all the same.
What was another Kakashi’s is his. What’s his is another Kakashi’s.
And if he were dead, he’d want his pretty little husband to be happy still. Satisfied. Fucked and claimed by another version of himself until he didn’t have to think about any of the things that made him so sad.
His husband didn’t need to think when he was with him. He could just listen to him and obey. Fight at his side when he was told to and warm his bed at night.
Is that why he was catatonic until he saw him? Did his counterpart train him that well? To need him there to even want to function?
How perfect. He’s always wanted a pretty sub to play with even if he’s never actually done anything, all too aware of just how fragile civilians are and just how foreign concepts like “privacy” and “not revealing someone else’s sex life the second you get drunk” are to shinobi.
