Hey there! So Iāve been juggling with this idea for some time, and I think now is the best time to launch it, a little more than one month before back-to-school.
As a former elementary school teacher, I know how limited classroom budgets are, but as someone who grew up trans, I also know how important it is for trans youth to be in contact with positive trans fictional characters. So hereās my idea :
I made this childrenās book titled āA Girl Like Any Otherā about four yearsago, about a young girlās transition and her family and friends. Itās basically the book that launched my career as an author. It allowed me to meet some of the most amazing families that I know, and gave me the background setting for my comic.
As itās almost back-to-school time, I want to send copies of the book for free to elementary teachers that are willing to have it in their classrooms. All they will have to do is to message me their schoolās address on Tumblr or by email before August 15th. I will also send them a link to download my āGenderific Coloring bookā for free.
The goal is to get the budget to print 200 copies as well as enough money to cover shipping fees for all over the world. Iāll adjust the goal if I see that the demand is higher than that.
It costs around 8$ to print one single copy, and we can estimate a 4$ median for the shipping (itās 2.50$ for Canada - where I live, - 3$ for the US and 5.50$ worldwide). We need to add 7% for the handling of the money by GoFundMe and Paypal, so thatās 12.84$ per copy - and 2568$ for 200 copies.
If thereās any money left from the campaign, it will be donated to the Trans Lifeline.

But...Why so young?...I mean, being a trans is WORSE than a cis. Not because some weird thing that causes all trans people to be retarded or something your local priestĀ might tell you. But because they are just worse off. Money wise and emotionallyĀ wise. If you want to be trans, (And a happy one at that) then you will need to buy a lot of hormones. About 1,500 per year. Then if you want the STUFF the gender you want to have then it would cost around Ā 30,000-Plus. Ohh! And if you are not manly enough (Or feminine)Ā then you must also get facial reconstructive surgeryĀ which cost another Ā 60,000 USD. The less money you spend on transitioningĀ than the more depressed you will be!Ā That and also, if the rumor is true, then trans are more likely to get cancer than a cis. Why would you want to make a child book about that? The more kids who hear about trans the more they might want to be a trans. That is a HORRIBLEĀ THING (Not saying that trans people ARE horrible,Ā just that they have to or have gone through a really bad thing in order to be happy.) Like really. Kids canāt be trans. Teens maybe. And adults can. But not kids. They want to be fucking dragon slayers for pete sake. Like I would be PISSED if they had one of those books at my brother's school. He is just a kid. It is like you are forcing that onto his impressionable mind. I told him he was adopted because he was the only person in our family who had blond hair. And he believed it. If you tell him that if he feels unconformable because he is a trans. Then he will have to PAY A FUCKING 100 GRAND just to be happy.
