5 Beautifully Restored Churches
Picture #1. Notre Dame de France in Leicester Square is a hidden gem in the heart of London’s theatre district and run by the Marist Fathers. A favorite tourist attraction and as popular as the church itself are Jean Cocteau’s murals, which was restored in 2010.
Picture #2. St. Alphonsus was founded as a German national parish in a suburb in Chicago in the 1880s. The church went through two great fires but still continues to stand until today. It underwent a large-scale renovation on its 125th anniversary in 2007 and it was returned to its original splendor.
Picture #3. The dilapidated St. Francesc Convent in Santpedor, Spain received an astounding makeover by architect David Closes. From a crumbling 1720s church, it turned into a modern cultural center with glass, concrete and steel walls.
Picture #4. St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Belfast was built in 1841 and has since been regarded as a fine example of Tudor Revival churches in Ireland.
Picture #5. A historic church in Waltham, MA, the Parish of St. Mary was built in 1858 and had an interior facelift in 2010.
I'd love to work on church restoration one day and be able to transform old ruins and repurpose them to something modern, cultural and accessible to people. I like how this company talks about their intentions for restoring churches and their step-by-step approach in executing their plans: http://carolinaservicesinc.com/church-restoration/
