What Is Laser Lamination?
A laser is a short form that stands for āLight Amplified by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation.ā When the words are pulled out slowly, they explain how the narrow coherent beams of light are spread by the process of light stimulation. Light is concentrated to emerge as a powerful beam. The laser has facilitated many engineering operations which would have been impossible before its discovery, among them is lamination. Lamination is the process by which several layers are assembled to come up with an improved composite material that has improved qualities like stability, and improved strength.
Laser lamination thus is an engineering technique where the laser is used to bond different layers of material to produce a material of improved quality and strength. The laser is loaded with atoms that are either liquids, gasses or solids. The atoms should have electrons that can be stimulated. The atoms are excited with a burst of energy such that the electron comes back after hitting the body. The above technique has a wide range of applications such as: Abrasion The white colored marks formed when a coated surface is hit with a laser that removes a layer of material. The marks that result occur when the laser energy evaporates or sublimates part of the material, typically with very little surface penetration. In digital printing The above technique can be used to custom digital graphics. The printing graphics increases the value and quality of the print. The popularity of digital printing has heightened over traditional printing because of its flexibility. Laminate on the image prevents it from fading and helps it to resist moisture.Ā Used in steel manufacturing for finishing Blemishes on steel sheets are removed by applying the laser to fill them in molten form. For example anodized engraving, Refurbishing old laminates The technique can be used to recoat old out -of-spec motors to ensure the equipment is back to its original specifications. There are obviously a number of uses for laser lamination today that several industries can benefit from.Ā
