shows always fuck up the endings. like thatâs where they get you. you watch the whole thing and then go oh fuck i hated that
like didnât scrubs, himym, and other big sitcoms do this too?? are we rlly surprised that the ted lasso 3rd season felt weird as fuck and left most everyone disappointed? iâm not afraid to say it peaked in season one. as someone who has 1. watched and 2. rewatched the show, as well as 3. interacted in fandom spaces including thru writing hella fic, i LOVED season one but then the rest felt forced and weird. sorry im not a tv professional but these are my Thoughts
mmmmkay no so Iâm not actually over it, so Iâm going to keep talking about it! letâs do rebecca + tedbecca first
The matchbox with the army man, the magnets, all the little signs and clues that led us to believe it meant something⌠I donât think those kinds of shots were baiting to be honest. I think they could have very well just been little reminders of Ted and Rebeccaâs soulmate connection without implying it would become more. However, what WAS undeniably a bait moment was that first scene with them. It was honestly a little rude. I picture some writer adding it in for shits and giggles and it doesnât sit well with me.
I said this in another post but I want to repeat it because itâs important. I do believe this is a show about Ted and Rebecca. Even though itâs called Ted Lasso, and even though they donât end up together, and itâs also very heavily about the team in general and how they grow, this is a show in which Ted and Rebecca are the two most central characters. Jason Sudeikis said this himself when explaining why the showâs first shot is of Rebecca, likening it to Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. Which is whyâŚ
Writing one of your main characters as having a happily ever after with a man who remains nameless in his fifteen amassed minutes of screentime is never a good writing choice.
I do believe that. And I donât mean like, a college kid casually dating someone in an epilogue of some coming of age movie. Thereâs a more finite sense to that. Iâm talking about endings in which it is clear that the person they end up with for good is still nameless. That is what happens here, and the result is that it gives us nothing to emotionally grasp onto. This daughter that is supposedly going to be Rebeccaâs key to motherhood? Weâve seen no connection from them other than that Rebecca helped her up after a fall, and that sheâs attracted to her father. We donât even know how this child feels about gaining a new mother figure, or even where the ex-wife is or how she feels about it. Itâs weird, itâs rushed, and itâs baffling that they expect so many viewers to truly root for that situation.
My second massive problem with the Rebecca ending and the way the show treated Tedbecca in general was that it felt so unnaturally avoided. (Again, this is just my opinion.) I see these two characters whose journies do heavily involve having love fail and leave them, and their processes in accepting it again. And so much of their pasts and presents are linked, entrenched in that soulmate connection that Jason confirmed, so having them find it in each other might have been predictable or cheesy, but it would have felt organic. Two people who have insane chemistry, whose lives are cosmically intertwined, and who have helped each other become better people? Ships have been built on way less. Ships have been formed from interactions with the weight of a straw of hay. Ted and Rebecca, in comparison, were an anvil.
Instead, the writers swerved. Like I said earlier, I donât think they ever veered that much in favour of Tedbecca endgame anyway, and I never thought them to be open to the idea frankly. But still, it remains that I think based on this philosophy of rom-communism that was built into the show, it would have just made sense to merge them together into a relationship.
And that rom-communism is also why itâs so heavily disappointing that the two big romances we had (Tedbecca and Roykeeley) built to nothing.

iâm about to make a second installment of a tedbecca fic i have on ao3 bc iâm still so sad they didnât even kiss once. thatâs literally all i needed. a singular Kiss. iâm a sucker for a will they wonât they but only when they Will
i feel like cybill and the nanny are the same show in different fonts but i cannot tell u why its just a primal feeling. something about the sheer nineties camp of it all and rich people bull shit
the most unbelievable thing about the nanny is that cc babcock was made out to be anything other than outrageously attractive at any given moment like ????? sure, okkkk
it's just 'we argue in the kitchen about whether to have children' 'but there's nothing else that I know how to do but to open up my arms and give it all to you' 'this is the end and I'm thinking about her driving around in the backseat of a car I'll be your demon daddy' 'I thought that I was here with you but it was always just an empty room' 'when I decided to wage holy war it looked very much like staring at my bedroom floor' 'but don't come crying I am nobody's moral centre' 'all this work gone to waste you make me climb and you shut the gate' 'take me back oh drunked gods of slaughter you know ive always been your favourite daughter' 'with my gun in my hand you I know I always get my man' 'and I couldn't help but yes I let it get in the helpless optimism of spring' 'so tell me where to put my love do I wait for time to do what it does I don't know where to put my love' 'and have I learned restraint am I quiet enough for you yet' 'sometimes you get the girl and sometimes you get a song' 'if I make it to the morning I should have come with a warning' ya know
So, on the series Space Force, there is a character named â F-Tonyâ or âFuck Tonyâ. He is ostensibly a PR guy but is basically a caricature of millennial social media/ influencer culture. Donât get me wrong, this character is hilarious, but sometimes I think the writers could do a liiiittle more research into the definitions of milennial slang.
For example, in S2 E1, F-Tony asks two other characters if they have been fucking. He does not use the word fucking, He uses a word that I assume the writers thought was a milennial slang synonym for fucking.
Anyway, I deserve financial compensation for having to hear the word âyiffingâ spoken on mainstream television.
