4. What was your muse doing when they heard about Harry’s death – and later Neville’s death and Harry’s resurrection? How did they react to the news? Did they attend either of the funerals or memorials?

the way james heard discovered harry’s death is when he apparated back to the house after specifically being told not to and found his mother, aunt, and uncle over his father’s lifeless body. the memory constantly runs on a loop in his nightmares. it took a minute his brain to process what had happened, and he initially just stared in shock. then, james immediately burst into hysterical and unending laughter, his mind not understanding how to cope with the trauma before him. before the death, however, james was upstairs in his room, keeping busy by writing letters to his old mates from school until the end of the night, when james was planning to apologize to his dad, when he heard a bang from the front door.

obviously, james attended harry’s funeral(s? im just gonna roll w the idea that harry had a public, ministry one and a private, intimate one). during the ministry funeral he only remembers feeling numb, going through the motions, greeting and thanking the people who attended even though none of them really knew harry they were all a bunch of impostors they didn’t know his father the way james did how dare they pretend to care when they only liked the idea of him they condemned him before as a public enemy and now they weep over him? and reading his speech, emotionless, off of the cue cards that were thrust into his hands ten minutes prior. eventually he couldn’t take the pitying looks and stormed out of the ceremony, only to be found an hour later at the three broomsticks, a bottle of firewhiskey almost gone and slumped over in a corner booth. at the private funeral, though, james did not hold back his emotions. surrounded by the people he considered family ( and also his legitimate family of course ) he expressed his anger, his sadness, but also shared his gratitude towards harry. 

when neville died, james found out through post as he got ready for bed. instantly, the man wept. neville was like an uncle to the boy and constantly consoled and helped him during his years at school, but also wasn’t afraid to call james out on his shit and reprimand him. neville was a friendly face he could always rely on to listen in the middle of the night when james had nightmares of his parents dying. he’d open the floo network and let ginny peek her head through the ashes and reassure him that no, they were not dead, both she and harry were fine, and then drink tea with him until he was calm enough to go back to sleep. neville was also a hero of james’ from a young age. sure, his parents were his heroes, but neville inspired james. when he heard the occasional stories of the war as a child ( obviously censored to a more age appropriate and therefore more fairytale type account ), james would always beg harry to tell him “ tha one with uncle nebille and tha snake. ” to hear that he was gone was a punch to the gut. he attended the funeral, naturally, but mostly stayed in the back as to not draw too much attention and left quickly. he grieved in private.

he had just finished work when he found out harry had been revived. he returned back to the safe house as he did every night, but was greeted by his mother waiting for him the kitchen. when he heard, it was like every emotion coursed through him as if he’d been struck by lightning. relief, love, giddiness, excitement, dread, regret, confusion, anger. all at once like being hit by a truck. he calmly stepped out and locked himself away for a couple of hours, doing nothing but pacing back and forth without thinking.

15. What is the worst thing your muse has ever done? What pushed them to do this?

while the elder wand may seem enticing at first glance, james knows the stories of the three brothers too well to be willing to cope with that kind of power. and the resurrection stone never truly crossed his mind until the death of his father, but even then the costs far outweighed the benefits. instead, he’d probably be drawn towards the invisibility cloak. not only as an heirloom of their family, but also because james knows what it’s like to be constantly in the spotlight — if not by the media, who constantly berated and harassed james for information on his family, then by his peers at school, always expecting him to thrive as his parents did as if success was handed down by genetics alone instead of by james’ own tenacity, or by his co-workers, who know only of his surname and not of james himself, expecting him to solve problems when he’s only a rookie himself. to escape for even a little while and find solace in himself alone, hidden away from prying eyes… james craves it.

6. What are your muse’s thoughts on the Dark Arts? Would they ever use such magic themselves for whatever reason, or have they already done so in the past?

it’s a firmly held belief of james’ that he would never ever turn to the more extreme of the dark arts. sure, he’s thrown a jinx or a hex around before but never with the intention to permanently harm anybody. even if he’s never experienced anything first hand, he’s poured over the history of the first and second wars relentlessly in his attempt to understand his namesakes, and he’s learned enough in school to know that the dark arts are dangerous in any hands, not just those considered ‘evil’. instead, he’d rather rely on his natural ability in charms as his means of offense and defense. the only time james would use dark magic is if he were so enraged enough that he lost control over his body and reacted without thought, but it would take something very awful to reach that point, i.e. fatally wounding his family.

7. What memories would your muse be shown if they were in the presence of a Dementor, and what physical reaction would they have?

obviously, the memory of seeing his father’s dead body in his home comes to mind. as does the funeral, and ultimately the dealing with the public constantly questioning and reminding him of it in an attempt to get a ‘scoop’ out of james’ suffering forcing him to constantly relive his experience in short bursts out of nowhere. if you had asked a few years prior, however, it’d be much smaller things that seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things but were heartbreaking to james. he’d grown up very privileged. he had a large, loving family and was always provided for. the worst moments for him would be things like his first serious relationship coming to an end when he discovered she was cheating, when his pet rat died in his third year, the time he watched another curse-breaker get hit by a ricocheting counter-curse and reduced to a vegetable while they were deep underground in a tomb, or staying up late as a child waiting for his dad to get home and being constantly being terrified of someone coming to tell them that harry was gone once he was old enough to truly understand the implications of having an auror for a father.

Describe yourself using a piece of media (a song title, a tv show character, a vine, a gif, a meme – you name it!): im not sure this really describes anything, but i do quote it at least 5 times a day. legit anywhere. when campus wifi isnt working, when the bus doesnt open the doors immediately at my stop, when my card isnt working for to get into my dorm, you name it.

Introduce the character you’re applying for: james potter !!! a perfect storm of sunshiny goofball and teenage angst ( even tho hes not a teen anymore ). if he was described by a meme, itd be the ‘this is fine’ dog.

Do you have any wanted connections for your character that you’d like to shout out?: best friend forever and ever, someone james mentored at hogwarts, a mentor for james ( which in my head i kinda pictured his uncle bill here??? ), someone who knows which prophecy is james’ but is keeping it a secret from him, and also definitely some of james’ schoolmates and potential friends/enemies !!!
