From Germany and it's a bit of embarrassing how many books I have about this topic and about the involved. It's so fascinating that somehow the most important things all happend around that time too! Think of Frederic the Great/Catherine the Great/Maria Theresia in Europe, the period of enlightenment with all it's new insights and inventions/ideas, the French Revolution, and all of it is connected! Crazy that even my hometown, Braunschweig (or Brunswick as you would call it in english), was kind of a hotspot involved in all this.
