A server I was in was talking about this and it seems important Supposedly the reason payment companies are doing this is not out of their own sense of right-wing morality, necessarily, but because these sites are under attack by pressure groups for organize campaigns to try and deplatform particular kinds of art
What was initially shown to me was a Vice article. I looked it up and it appears to have been taken down for some reason, but here is an archive: This Group Takes Responsibility for Steam’s Payment Processor Censorship Policies — They Just Implied ‘Pervert Nerds’ Cause Society’s Problems ...And, word is, these are not the only groups who are going after art like this. Word is, various pressure groups work together under deceptive names in order to attempt the censorship of particular media. See this Bluesky post which was being shared around:
In other words, if this is true, this is the result of a concentrated pressure group sending organized complaints to these companies with the intent to de-platform and censor, and they operate in such a way that is relatively unknown to people outside of that group But perhaps that also means something notable - It's not from up high that this is happening, but a response to a directed and public outcry. It is thus, in theory, possible to organize counter-protests and assert pressure against this kind of censorship in order to possibly de-fang these groups and reclaim some of the things taken away That would mean organizing and making a letter-writing campaign en masse, highly-focused, and directed. It's not impossible to do - Particularly in regards to games, Gamers have absolutely done such campaigns before. A few angry letters won't do, you have to assert widespread pressure directly at a company's PR. You want to be clear about your issues, on what you want, and it should be in your own words even if it follows the same general template
