Normal NPC never showed up. We never get confirmation that the takoyaki in this route was Onion-san.

Conclusion:

Chapter 7 b-side is gonna start with Kris and Noelle waking up in the lake depths with a very chipper and alive Onion-san and it's gonna be jarring as hell AND it's gonna turn out Onion-san is instrumental to the weird route somehow.
