❝   …i’m   sorry   to   ask   for   advice.   i   am.   only…   well,   i   never   really   did   this   at   home,   and   i   don’t   trust   anyone   else’s   opinion   as   much   as   yours.  ❞   rarely   did   larma   falter   in   front   of   amilyn,   her   closest   confidante,   and   yet…

❝   it’s  just..  well.  you  see,  𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄'𝐒  𝐀  𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋…  ❞   embarrassment  cut  her  off;  fortunate,  then,  that  a  simple  look  said  it  ALL.

"𝐀...𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋." Well, that didn’t say much. Quite a few girls called the rebellion home. And it didn’t get to the heart of her problem; though as a distinct flush crept up her cheeks, Amilyn was struck with a rare moment of understanding. “I see!” She clapped her hands together. “There’s not one string, but two! You seek a connection.” Love was a thing that excited her, under most circumstances ------- curious, that her smile didn’t come as wide as she might have liked.

❝  i  mean  we  don’t  𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄  to  rush.  if  you  can  spare  the  time.  that’s…  rather  sound  advice.  ❞  and,  having  inherited  her  family’s  ‘𝙰𝙲𝚃  𝙵𝙸𝚁𝚂𝚃’  instincts,  not  advice  larma  was  particularly  familiar  with,  either.

❝  it  should  only  take  a  few  moments,  even  so. ❞  

"𝐈 𝐝𝐨, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐰." And even if she didn’t, she would have done her best to make the time. This was one of the precious few Amilyn could call a friend in every sense of the word, after all. 

𝑨     𝑺𝑼𝑫𝑫𝑬𝑵     𝑭𝑨𝑰𝑵𝑻     𝑯𝑼𝑴     𝑭𝑰𝑳𝑳𝑬𝑫     𝑻𝑯𝑬     𝑨𝑰𝑹,     and     at     the     sound     larma     stepped     back,     a     triumphant     grin     resting     in     her     lips     -     overkill,     maybe,     but     technology     never     had     been     her     area     of     expertise     (     small     victories,     eh     ).     perhaps     the     familiarity     was     shameful     -     a     sad     reminder     of     how     little     had     changed     in     the     years     that     had     passed     since     they     were     here     last     -     but     if     there     was     comfort     to     be     found     at     a     time     like     this,     larma     was     certain     that     leia     had     found     them     what     was     possible.     ❝     WHO     INDEED?     ❞     her     voice     became     a     little     lower     in     response,     eyes     resting     just     a     few     moments     longer     on     the     module     (     to     ensure     that     her     success     was     not     short     lived     )     before     the     name     quickly     had     her     turning     her     head.

OF     COURSE.

the     voice     should     have     been     enough,     or     perhaps     the     faint     hint     of     pastel     in     the     corner     of     distracted     eyes,     but     it     had     taken     larma     this     long     -     too     long     -     to     draw     an     old     connection     between     the     woman     at     her     side     and     a     treasured     companion     of     her     teenage     years.     she     might     have     been     embarrassed,     had     she     not     been     filled     with     momentary,     inexplicable     R E L I E F.     war     was     on     the     horizon,     and     they     all     knew     it     by     now,     but     it     was     at     least     bearable     if     it     brought     with     it     reunions     with     dear     friends

❝        amilyn     !     um…     we     were     bunkmates,     back     on     reamma.     larma     d’acy.     criff,     am     i     glad     to     see     you     !!❞

"𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀?" For a moment it was all she could do to stare, mind racing to overlay the image of the woman before her upon the memories of an old friend. She was older ( they both were ) , but with a focused gaze the Vice Admiral saw it now, how her smile was a familiar one that touched her eyes and crinkled her nose. Instantly her demeanor shifted from that of casual affability to genuine warmth, and Amilyn pulled her forward into an embrace. “Stars, I hardly recognized you! It’s been so long!” Too long, she was ashamed to admit. 

Though she drew away soon enough, she allowed her hands to linger on the crisp sleeves of Larma’s uniform. Ever the impeccable soldier. “Let me guess. Leia got a hold of you, too...?”  What little their fledgling resistance had amassed was thanks to the General, and personnel, she imagined, were no different; who could forget the contributions of Princess Leia Organa, so vital to eliminating the Empire all those years ago? Who could refuse her?

"𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 𝐌𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄," she said, pausing to flash her bunk-mate a grateful smile. Joining the Rebellion had presented a myriad of new challenges, but with them, equal opportunities to learn: marksmanship, piloting, survival skills beyond what pathfinding had taught her, and even a bit of droid repair. It was how she came to possess a broken down astromech, positioned on the floor between herself and Larma.  Everything seemed to be in order; she checked and double checked the schematics ( even though her parts weren’t exact matches, and some of the wiring might have been more or less improvised ). Still ------- she had a good feeling about this. “Here goes nothing.” Without further ado, Amilyn initiated the start-up process and sat back to watch the droid come to life. 

One by one the lights flickered into existence. R2-S4 sat back, giving them a cheery whistle. It’s dome turned left, right, then paused suddenly, as if stuck. Frowning now, she waited for it to run its own diagnostics, trusting that it could overcome the problem itself. Yet just as she was about to lean forward, the droid released a high pitched screech, dome whirling as it rocked back and forth. Amilyn started, leaping forward to cut the power before it could injure itself or them. In the ensuing silence she exchanged a glance with Larma, enthusiasm and smile undaunted.
