“Excuse me?”

“What if I… you know, made them a bit bigger? Not too much! Just enough to make some dresses look better on me…”

Naoya pauses for a second, before letting out a deep sigh in disbelief.

“I can’t believe you’re being this greedy, don’t you have enough?”

“Greedy? It would be the only procedure I’d get!”

“Ah, so it’s not enough that you have a huge ass, you also want big boo—.”

You throw one of your dresses at her before she could even finish her sentence, which she avoids with astonishing reflexes (as expected of a sorcerer of her caliber) before laughing and teasing you about it.

“I mean, really. You should be worrying more about your hips than your boobs, why do you even need an ass that big for? What, you use it to store your cursed energy or something?”

“How—how crude!” you gasp, throwing the leftover dress at her, Naoya catches it too much to your frustration—once she gets like this there’s no stopping her! “If—if it’s such a bother then maybe it’s best if I stay home!”

Naoya chuckles, swiftly closing the gap between the two by encasing you in her arms and keeping you in place. No matter how much you tried to squirm out of her hold, she was not relenting and eventually, you gave up.

“I’m just joking, you know that right? There’s nothing more that I love than your  huge ass and your pretty little mochis.” She says, pressing a kiss on your cheek you took begrudgingly. Naoya was many things, but never a liar. Not when it came to you. “If you don’t believe me, then maybe that toy you like will? You know, the pink one that vibrates.”

As well as highly perceptive, understanding that sometimes you just needed a gentle reminder of your worth before her eyes. What made her fall madly in love with you in the first place.

“Or we can ditch this whole silly restaurant thing and head somewhere else, hm? Who cares about some pretentious reservation, let’s get something more fun. I know you’ve been craving ramen. We can hit up your favorite ice cream store afterwards too if you’d like.

…

…And discuss the procedure if you really want it.”

You shake your head, pressing your lips together as you finally let her in.

“I… didn’t really mean it. It was just a heat of a moment kind of thing. I never liked the idea of doing something like that”

“You don’t need it. You’re perfect” If you could only see yourself through her eyes… “The most beautiful girl in the world.”

“…Are you sure it’s ok if we lose the reservation? I know you’ve been wanting to go for some time now…”

“Yeah, but what good is it if you’re not feeling it? Besides, we can always go another day.” She reassures, before feeling you tense up. “What’s wrong now?”

“After we get dinner… can we still use… that?”

Naoya smirks.

“Use what? I don’t get it?”

“Oh, you know what I mean!” You gasp, and she simply goes on laughing, agreeing with your request she was planning on fulfilling anyways.

Just like all you ask for. The sky’s the limit when it comes to your desires.

All you need to do is say so, and it’s yours.

And though he’d never admit it, to him you were the best as well. No one knew how to cook his favorite meals better than you; no one knew what to say when he was in a rather foul mood, what to do when he needed that tranquility you always radiated with, quite unconsciously too. Naoya could simply glance at you and all of his worries would melt away at the sight of your rosy cheeks and smile.

Oh, how he loathed the fact that the two were growing up. That he couldn’t keep you small and close to him, that way it’d be easier to scare off those that had begun to notice your beauty, or that same kindness that had somehow escaped the cruelty of the Zen’in.

The kukuru Naoya could control. One threat their way and they’d fall back in their place. The akashi too. But the hei? They were the real menace, and it didn’t help that he couldn’t assert his power over them as much as the kukuru thanks to his ever growing responsibilities.

Or the fact that you seemed oblivious as ever to their unwarranted compliments.

But even then, he knew what strings to pull to get you back into place.

“Don’t be stupid, Y/N. They’re just saying that because they want to get into your pants.” Naoya would say, and the happiness that radiated from receiving a flower from a fellow Hei member quickly disappears.

“That’s not… true.” You say, dwindling between holding the daisy closer to you, or letting it fall to the ground, where Naoya thought it deserving to  be, alongside the small betrayal of his supposed intentions blooms within your heart. “Not him.”

“I know what men think, what goes on in their mind and believe me, you wouldn’t like it.” He insists. “Besides, good little sisters don’t question their older brothers, now, do they?”

“…No, they don’t.”

“Good. Then it’s settled—now, hurry and prepare a bath, I’m exhausted.”

Naoya doesn’t see you with anything that might incite him to bring up the topic again, so he moves on with his life. With you by his side, soft fingers threading against his dark locks as he tells you about all he’ll do once he’s leader of the clan.

“—and obviously I won’t let you marry but you’ll always be well tended. You’ll get all the kimono and mochi you want and all you’ll have to do is stand by my side. Sounds good, no? You’ll be my very own princess.” He smirks, looking up to you and your eerily distant eyes. “Y/N?”

“Yeah, nii-chan. Sounds good.” You murmur, a gesture that has him realizing you weren’t really giving him your usual attention.

“You’re not really listening to me, are you?” he frowns.

“No, no! I am, I’m just… thinking, that’s all.”

“Thinking? That’s a first, doll.” Naoya quips with a smirk. “And what were you possibly thinking about?”

Something that he’ll find soon enough, and very much to his shock and anger.

When he thought he had his family under control, or at least you under his grasp, it seems his clan had other plans with you: specifically those that entailed assuring the future of the Zen’in bloodline.

In other words, you were set off to be married with none other than one of his subordinates, regardless if the two were in the same squadron, brought up together like brothers.

“What? What do you mean engaged?!” Naoya hissed when his cousin, Jinichi, told him the news. Doing everything in his power to not ravage the very room the two stood in.

Though that would soon cease when it’s revealed that not only were you promised to Ranta, but that you were happy to be so.

In his cousin’s own words:

“Your precious Y/N seemed quite eager to be useful for once”

Looks like you managed to slip through the cracks of his overbearing control, enough for this relationship to flourish. When he thought you to be patiently waiting for his return, whether during a training session or out deployed in missions, you were actually getting acquainted with Ranta.

Getting close, dangerously so, to the man that was slowly showing you that Naoya wasn’t as good as you held him up to be.

That all you were getting from him you could get from someone that genuinely cared, with no hidden catch. No ulterior motives, no need to satiate his necessity of power. Simply doing so because he grew to love you.

And when Naoya confronted you just as you cleaned up your things from his bedroom to prepare your future haven alongside your husband, his worst fears materialized.

“He treats me like I’m the only girl in the world, and I love him too.”

Love him.

Proclaiming once more what you’ve swore before the gods in that horrifying ceremony, you pick up your things and leave.

You disappear from his life soon after that, anything that you once did for him was quickly blessed upon to Ranta—a man he considered anything but deserving of your affection.

Of your care when it came to getting just the right temperature for his tea. The appropriate seasoning for his meals, or what to prepare to lift his mood.

The way in which you folded his clothes, ironed them to look pristine, brand new, even when they needed a stitch here and there, no one would ever know for your work was just that diligent.

Or how you patiently scrubbed his body after an extensive day of training, or a dreadful night out on a mission. How you’d blush whenever he teased you about being a prude, about growing together and yet, it’s like you’ve never seen him; though at that point, Naoya was sure he’d be the only one to be in that position and strove to keep it that way.

Only for his plans to be foiled by his eager, foolish relatives.

By that stupid boy he always sees laughing and snorting like some idiot whenever you were around. Placing his disgusting hands over yours, pinching your cheeks before cupping your face and pulling you into a—

Naoya had ripped enough shoji, and shattered more cups that he could bother to count, to know he had to do something beyond throwing tantrums.

He couldn’t let Ranta continue to take his rightful place in your heart and claim what was his from the moment you were born.

But he couldn’t be erratic about it either; he had to be swift, but precise. Enough for his clan to understand to never meddle again with that is his… and for you to accept your fate once all was set.

So, when Ranta is deployed for a mission, the opportunity appears before him as the sun admits a rainy day. He didn’t think it could’ve been that easy, yet he’s heard of the gods aligning to some once setting their hearts in the right path.

And such, he does what he must. Naoya leaves the estate to remove the final obstacle between him and you once and for all—returning to finally make you his.

“Are you sure? Don’t wanna see Sleeping Beauty again?”

Naomi shakes her head; she’s made up your mind, and upon inheriting the stubbornness of her parents, she persists.

“Alright… but I just gotta check something first, ok?” mainly that it’s something appropriate for her to see.

Yet there wasn’t much for her to worry about upon realizing it was not only something she could see, but also something she wanted her to watch too. It’s just now that she recognized Naomi hadn’t seen anything of her parent’s wedding day, so this might as well be the perfect opportunity.

Quickly turning memorable when she’d coo and gasp at all the familiar faces, gushing at how pretty her mama looked, or how funny her flustered papa appeared to be.

“Ojii-chan is always crying!” Naomi giggles; Mariya couldn’t find it in herself to deny her for she was stating nothing but the truth—your father has always been quite an emotional man, it was a mystery how he remained composed when his granddaughter arrived in this world.

Nonetheless, as exciting as this event had been for your daughter, it wouldn’t take long before her eagerness slowly diminished into disappointment, eventually frustration and sadness upon noting a particular presence to be absent.

Hers, to be precise. Your daughter had innocently awaited for the moment she’d appear; whether by her mama’s side or in her papa’s arms, just as it often occurred. But when the video ended and she was nowhere to be seen, Naomi resorted to what any child did upon not meeting their expectations.

“Oh, no, Naomi-chan, why are you crying?” Mariya gasps, trying her best to console her but your baby is simply not having it.

“Why didn’t mama and papa take me???” she’d sob, gentle pats on her back as she tried to make sense of her parent’s abandonment. Even after her auntie explained that her absence was because she wasn’t born yet, to Naomi this was simply a poor excuse.

“Pumpkin, we didn’t know you’d like it there.” After seeing there wasn’t anything she could do or say to make her change her mind, Mariya decides to take her to her parents, who were equally shocked to see she’d become so upset for not being invited—even though they couldn’t. “Weddings are boring.”

“No, they’re not mama!” Naomi cries back. “Everyone was having fun without me!”

Naoya presses his eyebrows together, hating to see his daughter so afflicted by something that was wholeheartedly out of their control.

That didn’t mean there wasn’t a solution where his dumpling couldn’t be included, however.

“I suppose we are overdue for the renewal of our vows”

“Renewal…?” you repeat slowly, his words making something in your heart flutter. You haven’t even considered such a thing, was it even possible?

Well, for someone like Naoya, why wouldn’t it be?

“Just something intimate, with a few guests.” Naoya adds. The very presence of his relatives brings him much disdain; if he could, he would avoid them completely. “Naturally, we couldn’t leave our dumpling behind.”

Naomi’s eyes sparkle, a wide, toothy grin on her lips as she envisions all the fun she’ll  have.

“I want to look as pretty as mama!” Naomi declares, setting her imagination into one of the many things that impressed her from the wedding video. “I also want chocolate cake…”

“We’ll have to ask mama about that.” Naoya reminds, but you were simply too enthralled by the fact that your husband had been quietly considering making such a ceremony in the first place—was he even aware of how unexpectedly romantic he was being?

“Well, I don’t mind, but what about you, darling? This ceremony is for you too.”

Suddenly, Naoya’s ears turn bright red. Followed by a whisper, just low enough for you to hear:

“Everyday by your side feels like standing at the altar all over again.”

Maybe he does know what he’s doing when acting all nonchalant around you—

But that’s just how you love him anyways.
