light's end

 “ indeed i would. “

had he been grated by draven’s egotism, it did not become apparent, as he slowly floated down to meet draven face to face. oh, and how weary he looked after their last encounter– even the dark magic had begun to take its toll on karthus’ body. and yet, despite that, the smile that he wore was nothing short of genuine. 

“ one moment–”  and without another word, he began to sift through his bag. it was not long until he produced a small wooden box. delicate, and carved with ornate patterns of vines and flowers. perhaps an old heirloom of sorts. 

 “ i wanted to thank you for, erm, being there for me.”  

speaking from the heart had never been one of his strengths, he was awkward, unused to friendship. and yet, the warmth of his tone and sincerity of his smile expressed his appreciation far more than simple words could. 

  “ it... was perhaps the lowest point of my life, though it was your company that helped me see that there is... still much to live for.” 

 and, he caught himself rambling, and merely shook his head, a slight laugh escaped his lips.

  “ but, enough of that, right? i came here to bring you this.”  and so, he would offer his present, opening the box just enough for the fragrance of baked goods to seep out.  “ i don’t know how you feel about cookies, but..”
