“God’s desire is for His children to be rich…not just in spiritual blessings but in material blessings as well….. “be honourable, be weighty, be rich, be glorious, be burdensome, enjoy honour, be made abundant; to get oneself glory or honour, gain glory” …… God wants you to be the head not the tail….”

All of this is so dangerous. When this world promises suffering, poverty, pain, and the weight of sin, it’s so dangerous to promise someone that God wants you rich. This is very dangerous interpretation of the word of God. He intends for us to prosper spiritually, with faith and salvation being our riches. Some people are gifted with wealth to further the kingdom, but the way this sounds is that if you are poor you cannot do that. Not all people are meant to have material wealth.

Not only that, but we should have NO GLORY. We are nothing. God receives all of the glory, we should not bask in or gain any glory minus what God gives to us from Him alone. This glorifies and magnifies man, and that is idolatry and sin.

Jesus says the last will be first and the first will be last. The servant will be honored. We are not to be ahead of anyone, we are to be lowly and meek. We are to be humble and full of love no matter our lot. God does not promise all believers riches and wealth.

This is prosperity gospel. This is the idea that we are promised glory in this life, and we simply are not. We are promised that God’s salvation will be our riches and grace is our lot. We are promised suffering and hardship and trial and tribulation. Our glory is not in earthly treasures where moth and rust destroy. Our treasure is in heaven alone.

We are definitely not nothing! We are children of God. To say that we are nothing makes it seem like God only uses us and we are of no importance to Him, that is far from the truth! We are God’s children! Of course He wants us to prosper in every area of our lives. It brings Him glory when we do well in His name.

God wi surely make our names great to make His name known and make His name great. The Bible says so in Genesis 12:22. I dont believe we are to get the glory, is agree there, but God made Abraham’s name great and greatly blessed Abraham because He loved Him and because Abraham was faithful to Him. Not only did God bless Abraham, but He made a promise to greatly bless the descendants of Abraham too because of the covenant He made with Abraham.

The definition of rich isn’t just relating to materialistic things. The definition of rich is also plentiful and abundant. God wants us to be abundant, not just in Heaven, but on earth too. Only good things flow from God so why would God have a want for us to live lowly and struggling? God has promised to meet our every need. If we need food, He is willing to meet that need. If we need money, He is willing meet that need. If we need clothes, He is willing to meet that need.

I am NOT saying we wont struggle and go through trials and tribulations in this life. We surely will, but people should know though that God is willing to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we could ask or think in our lives. In this life. He is willing to bless us because He loves us. I want people to know that God doesnt always want them to struggle for money, He is willing to meet that need. God doesnt always want people homeless and sleeping outside in the cold, He is willing to meet that need. He is our Heavenly Father. He loves us…He provided for Jesus and the disciples. For Abraham, for Isaac, for Jacob, for Adam and Eve, for Moses, for the Israelites who had a whole promised land flowing with milk and honey.

Of course God can use us wherever we are in life, but I just feel led to tell children of God that God is willing to do more if people will believe for more. He wants to give us more because He loves us. When we are with God, we have an inheritance, we have promises from God. It is only available to those who delight in The Lord and seek Him first. Those of us who delight in The Lord are ABOVE and not beneath, the HEAD and not the tail. There is a season for everything. We aren’t supposed to stay in one season our whole lives because seasons change!

We shouldn’t want to stay beneath when God has called us to be above.

What if God tells you no? What if you ask for financial help and God denies your request? Or rather tells you to wait when you ask for help? What if God is putting you through a trial to discipline you or test your faith? What if He wants you to rely on Him even when you are losing your home or facing eviction? Those are the teaching moments. God isn't going to throw money into our lap, He knows what we need. And sometimes what we need is to be told no. Our inheritance is not earthly blessings. Our inheritance is salvation and new life into Gods family.

And dont you see how that is harmful Deja? “ When we are with God, we have an inheritance, we have promises from God. It is only available to those who delight in The Lord and seek Him first. Those of us who delight in The Lord are ABOVE and not beneath, the HEAD and not the tail. “

So people who are not financially blessed, ahead in life, arent truly seeking the Lord then? I delight in the Lord, I seek the Lord in all areas of my life and love Him over anything. I am living paycheck to paycheck, getting by but by no means wealthy. Am I doing something wrong then? What about my church members who adore God and worship Him through their financial crisis? Seasons change, but what about the poor who are poor their entire lives? Do they not delight enough? This is dangerous.

If you have a mustard seed of faith and mountains aren’t moving, you may have the wrong kind of faith — or God may have a better plan.

“We shouldn’t assume that in every case of unanswered prayer the problem lies with defective faith.”

“Comfort people with the presence of Christ in suffering, not with the assurance that they will escape it in this life.”

To be sure, we should be willing, always, to endure suffering or sickness or poverty for Christ. We should be ready to embrace it joyfully when God calls us to it as part of a larger vision. But Jesus makes it very clear: Seek the kingdom of God first, the hallowing of God’s name, the pursuit of God’s saving rule, the doing of God’s holy will, the pursuit of purity, the glorifying of God’s name, the rescue of the perishing, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. These are the great, all-consuming goals of life.

In episode 320, Pastor John shares how to distinguish the Christian gospel from the prosperity gospel.

1. The absence of a serious doctrine of the biblical necessity and normalcy of suffering, the absence of a doctrine of suffering.

2. The absence of a clear and prominent doctrine of self denial is a tip off that something is amiss, an absence of a clear and prominent doctrine of self denial

3. The absence of serious exposition of Scripture. Does the preaching take the Bible seriously by explaining what is really there in texts? Does it work through passages of Scripture, explaining the flow of the thought? Or does it feel like the pastor has his favorite topics, he circles around to them over and over making a few texts serve his purpose?

4. The absence of dealing with tensions in Scripture. That is, does the preacher bring up passages that seem like problems with the ones he is dealing with and then give careful explanations to show how they really fit together? Or is he content just to say what seems to be in one text and never even raise the question.

5. Do the church leaders have exorbitant lifestyles? Do they drive cars, live in houses, wear clothes, travel to places that only the very wealthy can go or only the very wealthy can possess? Is the pastor living above the average person in his parish? Now why might that be? And I know that there might be cultural and traditional reasons for it, but are there biblical reasons for it? Try to sniff out. What makes this pastor tick. Why is he so concerned with the clothes he wears and the car he drives and the neighborhood he lives in and the way he travels and the accommodations he gets on his traveling. This doesn’t smell like the Jesus who had no place to lay his heads.

6. Is there a prominent of self and a marginalization of the greatness of God? Does the preacher seem to parade himself? Does he figure into the talk too much? Is the greatness and majesty and glory of God the centerpiece of all he says and does? Is the preacher in love with the glory of God in the gospel? Is he broken hearted for his sin? Is he contrite and humble? Is he publicly self effacing? Does he repent of the sins and model how to appropriate daily the sweetness of what Jesus did for us on the cross? Or is the majesty of grace marginalized while he exalts himself?

The prosperity gospel distorts grace and undermines the full message of the Bible. How do we loving confront friends and family who are ensnared?

“The prosperity gospel reduces the glorious gospel of enjoying fellowship with God to enjoying earthly betterment.”

Downplaying the vast scriptural theology of suffering expected of Christians, the suffering that is expected of Christians and promised to Christians, like 1 Peter 4:19: “Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.” So the prosperity gospel downplays this vast pervasive teaching in the Bible that we are called upon to suffer. And it is not just persecution suffering, but body-wasting-away, disease-type suffering in Romans 8:23 and 2 Corinthians 4:16.

If we could see all that God does through loving correction, we would not avoid it or withhold it like we do. We would beg to be rebuked.

Rebuke is good medicine. Rebuke is NOT persecution or bullying, it’s crucial to every believer.

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:12–13)
