Workshop âMake your own copyâ
The idea was to make 3 kinds of stools that raising the issue of copying.
First, the stool 60, a classical iconic designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933 and already distributed by Artek. Decades later, Ikea did a really close legal copy with their Frosta stool. Today, you can find a huge list of websites that offers recipes to hack the Frosta stool into stool 60.
Second one is a an archetype stool. This object has no original creator, passed down from one generation to the next, like the concept of a knife. You can also find DIY ideas on the web.Â
The third stool is designed by Cas Moor in 2014 and published under âcopyleftâ. There is no license attached but it is quite clearly mentioned about what you can do with it.
Results of the day with Martin, Alena and Ruben. Thank you to all of them!Â

Workshop Libre Objet - Make your own copy
This year, the Libre Objet* Workshop will focus on the question of copying in the context of product/object design field. Since it's a touchy topic for creators and the overall design industry, we will challenge this by making actual copies, explore the possibilities, rights and use limitations of iconic designs, archetypes and open-source objects. Through this practical experiment, we will discuss hacking, relaying and sharing and how copy can be a creative way to design. During the day, each participant could make his/her own copy with the available materials and tools.
