So it’s been crazy busy around here! After my last post I went on vacation to Portland (OR) and Seattle. When I came back we had a check presentation from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for our Impact grant. We are using the $10,000 funds to purchase Macbooks for digital literacy programming (Mac 101 classes, coding, etc.)

The photo above was taken by the City of Plano and features the State Librarian and Director of TSLAC, Mark Smith (red tie), the Chairman of TSLAC, Michael Waters (pink tie), the Director of PPLS (to the right of Waters), a bunch of Managers, and myself (holding the check)!

My first step when I got into the office, after getting my stuff put away, was to organize what grants we already have in the mix, what we plan on going for soon, and potential grant ideas/opportunities. I made folders for each one, and it sits out on my desk so I can easily access it. I’m constantly in and out of these folders, whether adding more information into them, adding potential grant resources, or double-checking due dates and other important information. 

Hi! So I’ve been working for the same system for about 2.5 years now, first as a Circulation Supervisor, then a Librarian, and starting next week - a Grants Librarian! I had been working on the Grants Committee for two years and the director decided to dedicate a staff position to grants since it takes a lot of focus and time for research, writing, applying, recording, etc. and I got the gig!

I’m planning to use this space to talk about the position, grants, procedures... all sorts of things. We have never had a position like this before and I can’t find anyone out there with one either!
