“Alright professor.. shit.” she groaned and looked down at the book as she begun to scroll through. “Whoever invented math is a fuckin’ prick..” she muttered.

“It’s honestly is a very important subject to have at least an elementary grasp on, Vi, but I’m completely with you. The Ancient Romans were absolute dicks.”

Violet usually spent her Saturday afternoons curled up in the corner of NYU’s coffee shop and today was no different. She allocated a corner of the shop perched behind her laptop, her glasses sitting at the brim of her nose as she raised her coffee cup to her lips, taking a slow sip as her eyes wandered up. She had felt a presence approach her and she finally decided to acknowledge them. “Hello.. can I help you?” she questioned curiously.

He was an absolute mess, but he had to stop for coffee on his way back home from a one night stand, something he rarely ever did. After a few minutes of anxiously waiting for his americano in line, he realized he was probably standing a bit too close to one of the patrons when she spoke up. “Oh, er, sorry about that - wait, you’re Violet, right? I’m Levi Foster, I think we had class together?”

“I’m offended.” Civi said. “Sure, I may suck at statistics, but it’s not because I don’t study. I literally study every night after dinner, for like two hours. Just this fucking subject. I still have a million others to do. I try, man, it just doesn’t make any fucking sense.”

“I get it, mate. I do. But in order to do any good and stay on the squad, you have to keep your grades up and I know how bad it’d be if you got kicked off the team” he said with a frown. He could see that Civi was upset. “Alright, how about we take a break for now? And if anything goes wrong, I guess I could help you out with an outline... but that’s it!”

“you and your books.” beau said and rolled their eyes. “i honestly just need to practice. with my hands. i need to do it, i can’t just read about chemicals and remember what to do and how it works. i learn by experience, trial and error, not… books.” they said with a sigh as they groaned, sitting forward on their chair and letting the backs of their pumps hit the top of the table, having put them up. “i am so over this.”

Levi was used to Beau’s antics by now, but since he knew that they had an exam coming up, he had to put the pressure on his friend. “If you can’t get the theoretical, you won’t get the practical. You have to have at least some foundations before you start mixing chemicals together,” he said, playfully rolling his eyes. “You wouldn’t wanna go blowing up fifth ave, would you? Wait, don’t answer that.” 

“Can someone fucking explain to me why the fuck the guys I share a house with are fucking slobs. Like clean up a bit or no women are gonna wanna sleep with you.”

“One of the many reasons I moved out of housing as soon as I could. Some guys just don’t give a shit anymore.”

“Totally understandable. I usually run off with some chick of the night right after a show and all.” He let out and chuckled a little bit as he shrugged, fixing his glasses on his face. “Took us a lot of practice to get everything right for shows, honestly. Dylan’s really talented so I appreciate her.”

One thing was for sure, he thought, Alex was a great musician and Levi would follow his band to the ends of the earth. He was always there to support his friends. “Mr. Humble over here. You did just as great. Honestly wouldn’t be a fan if it wasn’t for you two!”

the pair were fast friends, cine their first interactions they got along swimmingly, jokes thrown in the air with little repercussion accompanied by endless late night phone calls when times became rough. at his words dylan lifted her head from her drink, swallowing slowly as a mischievous smile appeared on her lips. “you already know i’m down for that.. prepare to lose, foster.. i’m an expert at this game.” she purred and with her words she scooted off her chair, adjusting her hair and button up before flashing him a wink. she strolled over to her first prospect, a freshman clearly here with a fake id. she cozied up beside her, her arm leaning against the bar top as she let out a soft sigh. “ditched tonight too? rather unfortunate, though i wouldn’t mind keeping you company.” she mused, taking a moment to look back at levi with a grin.

Levi watched as Dylan got up from her chair and sauntered over to a cute enough looking girl and start to chat with her. When Dylan shot him a sly grin, he gave her a wink back and finished off his drink. His eyes scanned the hole-in-the-wall bar and tried to find someone even remotley up to his already high standards. When he realized that most of the men there were wearing things the probably bought from thrift stores or “The Gap”, he lowered them...significantly. He briefly thought about pulling out Grindr (that he barely used but some nights a boy gets lonely) and prey around on their, but he thought that was cheating. He finally set his sights on a group of guys around his age and bumped his way into their conversation. They were all talking about some band he’d never heard of, but he decided to play along the best he could. After awhile, he kept glancing over at Dylan and it looked like she already moved on to the next victim. Shit he thought. He’d better get a move on. But by the time last call was being called, he only had a number from the back of the bathroom stall he found. His game was really off. “Alright Dyl. How many did you score?”

“I’ll do anything for an A, but I won’t do that.” She taunted, mimicking the famous meatloaf song. Letting out a small laugh, “Guess you better find other ways of sucking up.”

“I don’t blame you. But you’re really on one tonight, aren’t you? All these witty remarks, I’m living for it. I gotta take you out drinking more often.”

“ i don’t know, maybe you should add ‘psychic’ to your list of ever-growing talents, ” he said as he tried to look past his tall frame to make sure they were alone, he didn’t need any more people attending his quarter life crisis. “ i still look better than you ”  he let his eyes look over levi’s body and immediately knew what a fucking lie that was. maybe it was the alcohol but a small wave of insecurity instantly took over. “ anyway, i know it’s late but,” julian reached inside his pockets and pulled out a smalll candy bar “ i need your help with this stupid paper and i brought you sweets.” he placed the sugary treat on his hand and walked inside the room just in case levi wanted to refuse. “ i fucking hate politics, i don’t know why we have to learn about cultural plularism when we live in a system that’s designed to opress poor people and minorites. this course is a scam ” 

Levi gave Julian a boyish smirk and rolled his eyes. “Ever growing talent’s? I’m only highly logical and can see past tiny details that most people over look. And I find patterns in things. Like you knocking on my door for the third time this week. Is it really that bad?” he stated, watching his friend pull something from his pocket. “You’re bringing gifts this time?” he looked the candy bar over and smiled again. “Chocolate? Are you sure you’re not the psychic one? I’ve been wanting a Hershey’s bar for awhile. And dark chocolate too,” he said as he started to unwrap the candy bar as Julian slid past him. “Well, we gotta cover the basics and understand it before we go any father. Foundations come before the house, my friend.” Levi shut the door behind him and sat down on his bed. “I hope you don’t mind, but I’m not putting on pants.”

“Math Matthews really can get a girl to pay attention. I did really fucking well in calc.” Shannon swooned theatrically. “A homebuilder? I respect it, I wouldn’t ever go after a teacher whose married..” She paused. “I don’t think I’d go after a teacher in general. Hell I don’t go after people my age either.”

“You’re absolutely right. I thought I was going to absolutely fail stats with him the amount of times I caught myself paying attention to his ass in class. It’s just one of those nice butts, ya know? And you  know he knows it too. Why else would he wear those tight dress pants? People our age suck.”

“ well doesn’t that suck for chris pratt–.” he hummed.” nah, guess not and ya know most people would agree angelina jolie is a beauty and for a moment in time they both looked like the same person? it’s true. maybe bucsemi could rock your world. take the edge off.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard that people think Angelina looks like Steve. That’s news to me. But now that you mention it, I don’t think I can get that image out of my head. I don’t need anyone rocking my world right now. I’d much rather keep drinking and drown my sorrows with you, my friend.”

“I guess that’s true, I wouldn’t want to get head from someone if their teeth would be poking around.” She grimaced, the thought was nasty. “Matthews from the english or math department? Because only one of them is married, but both of them are hot.”

“Oh damn. Imagine only getting to choose one. I’d go with Math Matthews. I could pull out one of Jenn’s old lines and say that rings don’t plug up holes and go with English Matthews. but I’m not trying to be a homewrecker,” he gave a sly wink. “I’d rather be a homebuilder.”

“ whole campus has you turned off, huh? that’s a lot of judgment on a lotta people now–” he quipped.” what the hell is a prat.. like chris pratt? –is buscemi more your speed? i can see that.”

“Well, not the entire campus. There are a few,” he took a sip of his drink. “A prat? Someone annoying, like an idiot? Have you never heard British slang before?” He nearly chocked on his drink when Nathan mention Steve Buscemi. “There is nothin’ in that man that I find attractive at all.”
