Dont judge a book by its cover...wait...why not? Stereotypes about a countryās style
We all know that judging a person based on stereotypes is a super shallow thing to do. But do you know what is even more shallow than stereotypes in general? ā Stereotypes just based on appearance! And donāt tell me there are not certain images popping up in your mind whenever you think of some nationalities. For example, look at the guy below. I would be surprised if there is someone among our readers who does not think of France right away. So since we cannot hide from the stereotypes about our looks, lets at least point them out :-)

Russians: Two things that come to my might when thinking about Russians are jewelry and classy clothes. I would say especially Russian women take care of their appearance and pay much attention to what they wear. High heels, nice jewelry, fancy clothes, perfume and make-up seem to be their standard equipment when leaving the house, even though they just go to the grocery store across the street. OH I almost forgot! The fur hat - of course thats a must have for the typical russian :-P

Australians: The stereotypical look of a Australian is often associated with their favorite free-time activity: surfing. Can you picture the tanned, long-haired guy in flip flops, shorts and a ābillabongā shirt? I have been to Australia and yes you can find a lot of these guys over there. But whether you will be able to find the handsome and athletic surfer-boys also depends on the part of Australia you are in. Girls, donāt go looking for them in the outback or the rainforest ;)

Americans: Let me make a distinction here. We have the typical American who you would meet abroad (the tourist) and the American you can meet in their homecountry (the cowboy). The latter would probably wear red cowboy boots, a washed out wrangler jeans, a tucked lumberjack shirt and a cowboy hat or cap. On the contrary, when you are trying to spot the American tourist overseas the magical word is āwhite sneakersā. Honestly, thatās probably the most reliable way to spot an American tourist :-P

Italians: We have already elaborated on the Italiansā love for fashion in another article but let me summarize: Ā Itās all about brands ā the bigger the logo the better! And no matter if day or night, the sunglasses are always onā¦very fashionable these guys! One more stereotype that I personally can think of is that Italian guys probably also have the highest usage of hair gel in the world haha

Swedes. In our article āAre Swedes really that beautiful?ā we have already reported on the Swedish natural beauty stereotype. Besides that, I got a tip from a Swedish friend of mine about a piece of clothing that belongs in every Swedish wardrobe: White chucks! Apparently these shoes are a super Swedish thing to wear, especially when they leave their country :PĀ

Chinese. I just have to share this photo with you, which I saw on instagram the other day. It made me laugh and I could clearly picture the old Chinese woman on the bus. Iām not sure how I got this picture but maybe its from Hollywood movies, where the old Chinese women in a big city is portrayed like this :-D
Japanese. For Japanese I think it is clearly the camera around their neck that characterizes them very well - at least the Japanese tourist. When I think of Japanese in their home country, the first thing that comes to my mind are beautiful Asian woman with pale makeup, nice shiny and colorful robes and chopsticks in their hair.

Germans. The most common stereotype would probably be that Germans run around in āLederhosenā and āDirndlā (see picture) all day long, but sorry thats just the Bavarians from the south of Germany ;-) Let me tell you what a typical German would wear: Sandals, socks and beige zipp-off shorts. We have already written about German clothing style and other German stereotypes in āHow to spot a Germanā - so check it out if you are interested;)
