"We’re nineteen light years from Earth now. I can take you there. Maybe then you can find another way back to… wherever it is that you’ve come from?” As for laughing, she wasn’t quite there yet, but she could see some amusement to it. At least.

"Nah, it's my crew I'm worried about. If I can't get them back to Earth within the next fifty or sixty years or so... well then they might die of old age! And then I'll have no one to play Eye Spy with. Well... I suppose I could stay here, and play Eye Spy with you, Captain. But it's s'posed to be my duty to look after Dave, and get him safely back home. We could play Eye Spy for a little bit though, if you want. Let's see. I spy with my little eye, something beginning with.... C!"

"Cadium II is fairly nasty so I’m not surprised there. Why’d you have to keep track of when it’ll be cleared up, though?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow in confusion. "I mean I suppose you’d probably have to wait for it to reach non-lethal and non-harmful to human levels to return the ship, but I somehow doubt whatever mining corporation you’re a part of will still be around after all those millennia."

"A pick- what?" Pick up lines, and flirting in general was a little out of Bill’s realm to grasp. It was why he usually had Ted initiate any interactions with the fairer sex. "Oh uh, yeah! I can definetly look around your ship if you need me too!"

He examined the box's controls, quickly figuring out how to use them. Well, at least he hoped he had figured it out correctly. Then he switched on the control that would take them where he needed to go.

"'Ere... Hang on a minute. This isn't a house... it's a ship!" 

"… No, this is the ship Serenity, ma’am. You… your call is corrupted. You seem to be missing a body."

"Oh, the name's not 'mam,' by the way, it's Holly. I mean, you can call me 'mam' if you like, but that might be a bit silly, seeing as I'm not your mother! What's your name, then?" 

The Beatles were definitely more his dad’s bag when it came to music but that didn’t mean he hadn’t listened to some of it. They were pretty cool as far as pre-Van Halen music went. ” … Will I be able to come back here when you’re done?” 

"Well, I don't see why not. I'll just borrow this box thingy for a few minutes and then you can have it back. 'Ere, you wanna look round my spaceship? That's not a pick-up line - just thought you might find it interesting, that's all."

Chuckling at Holly’s brief confusion, the Doctor returned his attention to the monitor he’d been looking at in the first place. “How long’s it been since the radiation spike?” he asked instead of looking it up in the ship’s logs for himself, assuming Holly’d probably not had someone to talk to in ages. Hence the snails/nails confusion.

How long? "Three million years," Holly replied. "Well, give or take a few decades here and there. Still, at this rate I think the radiation will be all cleared up soon. I give it maybe a century, so, not too long to wait now I s'pose."

At the question, Deanna finally spoke up. “No, I do not. And none of the crew does, to my knowledge,” she added for good measure. “What species are you?” she asked. 

"Well I s'pose it's not a very good trick, but give me some time to learn the systems, and I can probably figure out how to do a bit more. My name's Holly. What's yours?"

"Three… million? You realise that our shuttlepods couldn’t carry enough fuel for a mission that far. That’s not even within our galaxy, I don’t think." She was just confused. Not that that was entirely hard to do. She was far too tired to wrap her head entirely around it. "How about you start at the beginning and explain."

"Okay, well, it's like this. I was testing out the Hop Drive, trying to use it to hook up with another computer far away, but it went a bit wrong. See the thing about the Hop Drive is it's brand new, so I haven't had a chance to iron out all the flaws yet. I was trying to get back to Earth... only instead, I ended up here! Funny that, ey?" he giggled half heartedly. "Well, got to laugh, haven't you."

For him nineteen eighty-eight didn’t feel like the past. It felt important in the way only the now can, though admittedly he was slowly learning that everyone felt that way about their respective time period. An odd and seemingly obvious little revelation but then he and Ted were fairly prone to those. 

"Alright, look. I guess I'm stuck in this here telephone box of yours until I can find a way out. According to my data, there's no Jupiter Mining Cooperation in this time period. I gotta get back to my own ship. Mind if I borrow your box for a bit? I think I can figure out how to work it!"

"You could always just ask for our help rather than borrowing our ship." Erika blinked a few times, thinking, then sighed and rolled her eyes. "But you’re already in our ship. Fantastic." She sighed again, then realised there was a better question than that, and one that really could make things a problem. "Where is your ship? We’re fighting a war right now and can’t really leave our area too much."

"...it's three million years away. Look, if you're a bit busy right now, perhaps you could let me borrow one of your shuttles instead. It really doesn't matter, so long as I get back home. Would that be alright, Erika? You don't mind if I call you Erika, do you? Or do you prefer to be called Rik? Or maybe just Ka, or Er?"
