the fireworks themselves are harmful to the environment - they cause extensive air pollution, leaving metal shards, dangerous toxins, harmful chemicals, and smoke in the air. some of these never disintegrate, and instead poison everything they come into contact with. exposure to the chemicals has been linked with various health issues, such as asthma [2]

the shock of fireworks can be fatal to birds. if fireworks are set off near nesting birds it can cause them to flee their nest (furthermore it’s an offence in the uk to injure wild birds under the wildlife and countryside act 1981) [3]
