Teeth nervously pull at the blonde's bottom lip as she looks up at the man currently demanding answers. She curls her fingers into her palm, forming a tight fist before a small pain flare shoots through the darkening bruises of her hand. The well worn leather of the glove, his glove she had stolen at some point, crinkles a little under the strain of her movement. "I didn't say anything because I didn't want you to freak out." She teases, but her smile falls a little flat as she tugs the glove off, offering up her hand to show him the way the illness is beginning to crawl it's way up her hand, almost wrapping around her wrist now. "I thought it wouldn't move as fast because of my healing but." She stops short, glancing between him and the angry dark black and purple splotches staining her skin.

perhaps   it   was   a   little   bit   selfish   of   him   to   think   this   at   that   moment   ,        but   in   the   back   of   that   cacophonous   cesspool   that   was   invading   his   mind   ,        one   thought   kept   itself   anchored   and   was   not   budging   .        once   passing   thought   that   was   said   in   the   heat   of   the   moment   at   the   time   ,        when   they   were   both   running   for   their   lives   and   keeping   each   other   safe   ,        which   had   then   turned   into   a   promise   that   he   secretly   swore   on   his   life   that   he   would   keep   .

to   protect   her   ,        as   she   protects   the   world   .

that   infection   on   her   hand   was   a   failure   of   that   promise   .        and   as   much   as   he   would   like   to   listen   to   her   ,        to   reason   ,        and   even   to   the   slightest   possibility   that   this   was   something   he   couldn't   predict   ,        or   something   he   couldn't   protect   her   from   ,        the   silence   still   sat   heavy   between   them   ,        even   after   she   had   already   spoken   .        and   when   he   finally   looked   at   her   ,        there   was   a   familiar   icy   determination   in   his   blue   eyes—the   same   one   he   wore   ,        and   the   one   she   was   familiar   with   ,        all   those   years   ago   .
