guys its a wonderful life was literally such an anticapitalist masterpiece that the FBI claimed it was communist propaganda and under investigation they found the movie “deliberately maligned the upper class, attempting to show the people who had money were mean and despicable characters.“ 

I have to add one thing, because my family realized something about this movie for the first time this year.  The scene where Mr. Gower’s is grieving the death of his son and accidentally makes poison medicine likely takes place around 1918 or 1919.  That means Mr. Gower’s son died during the Spanish flu pandemic in America.   And during that sequence, young George goes to see his dad at work, to ask for advice about the poison medicine; he watches a meeting in which Mr. Potter the greedy banker is trying to convince George’s dad to foreclose on more homes.  Mr. Bailey won’t do it, because a lot of people are out of work at the time.  They’re unemployed because of the Spanish Flu.  This movie hit very differently in 2020.
