Thought on the fashion in Andor
When it comes to the clothes in Andor I've been feeling like something is missing. I tried imagining my fave fashion icon Senator Amidala in next to Mon, and I just couldn't, somehow. I think I finally know what the problem is, and I'm now wondering what took me so long to realize it. Where are all the patterns?
So, obviously with Mon Mothma and the chandrillans, we see incredible work with textures, layering and draping. But there's absolutely no patterns on any of them! Sometimes the fabric will have incredibly detailed texture that will mimic patterns, but it's just texture. And all monochrome.
The same with our fashionable ghorman friends with their cute little hats, yeah, they look super tailored and dapper, but they are all wearing the same dark earthy colour's and no patterns.
Is this intentional to represent how the empire kills creativity and self expression? Of course the biggest offenders are the actual empire employees and their uniforms or suits.
They really used clothes to expand on the Chandrillan culture, and I would have liked it if this lack of patterned fabric was a sign of their specific fashion history, but then I saw it repeated everywhere, so it sort of lost it's impact.
