how to patch a crotch blowout in your jeans
you will need: the ripped jeans, some denim to patch them with, thread that matches the jeans, a sewing machine with a zig zag stitch, heavy duty machine needle, scissors, and pins
***disclaimer in case theres any denim heads reading this post*** the jeans im patching in the photos are japanese raw selvedge denim and i am aware that this is not how you fix them, but these are my boyfriends and he asked me to do this
this technique works on basically any jeans
step 1: trim the hole so that you get rid of all the thin denim. you may have to cut off quite a bit.
as you can see, i cut off quite a bit
step 2: cut out pieces of the patch denim. make these dramatically bigger than the hole, you will trim them down later. note that the patch doesnt need to match the jeans. make sure the denim youre patching with is thick and sturdy
step 3: pin the patch demin to the inside of the jeans and make sure the patch is centered around the hole
step 4: pick your thread. it should match the jeans youre patching. wind a bobbin with this thread and thread your machine. make sure youre using a jeans, leather, or heavy duty needle
step 5: select a tight zig zag stitch, if you don't have one just use a zig zag. make the stitch width as wide as possible if your machine can
step 6: stitch around the patch
step 7: stitch another row around the patch on the outside and then the inside. fill in the patch with stitching for added durability if you want.
step 8: trim the edges of the patch as close to the stitches as possible
step 9: stitch another row around the outside to seal in the edges of the patch
step 10: tie off strings and youre finished!
this is a rather noticeable patch method but usually you can only see it slightly from the back depending on how big the rip is
