I mean there has been several cases of him outwardly spoiling them (the bday cakes and promising he would give them an outfit if they do their chores) as well as them disobeying and yelling at him (yelling at him about failed bday cake and disobeying him about not attack Uno in the movie).

Yes, the children have shown to be afraid to make him upset, but any child would be afraid of disappointing or making their parents mad. Heck, when Father entrusted them to be home alone, they acted like any other kids who are afraid their parents will find out to made a party without their permission.

Heck the movie itself does help define an abusive parent is the show’s standards. Grandfather playing favorites between his sons, and one of them eventually rebelled while the other is extremely afraid of him but still wants his approval.
