i just think if youre usamerican and within an online fan community for something thats also predominantly liked by usamericans You should be nicer and more open minded to fans that arent from the us and maybe dont treat them like some sort of strange fucking creatures. you might get more fans to talk to and befriend if you dont act like the us is the default for everyone in existence. this applies to everything ever when it comes to interacting with others online but im talking about fandom bullshit currently so keep that in mind

again, this applies to literally everything. it applies to all sorts of minorities within a given group, they will get alienated and treated weirdly for not fitting in and have their rightful complaints ignored so they dont wanna engage. im just speaking from how ive felt in online fan communities as someone not from the us or imperial core in general

OH THE ADHD REALLY GOT ME THIS TIME GIRLS!!!!

a couple weeks ago on my way to do laundry i dropped the detergent container and it broke and spilled all over. after i cleaned it up, i needed a vessel for the remaining detergent so i grabbed a rinsed+clean oat milk carton out of the recycling. well i guess after doing laundry a few days ago in the seconds between the laundry basket and the laundry shelf my brain said 'oh oat milk carton. goes in fridge.' and i put it there with nary a thought in my head. just now i'm sitting at my desk eating cookies and think 'oh i want milk' and reach into the mini fridge beside me, grab the first carton i see, open a carton to take a swig too fast to stop, and well you know the rest.

I don’t think we ought to normalize or justify bullying as a means to keep people from being annoying — a sentiment that in and of itself could make for a whole article’s worth of conversation — but I do think we should make a habit of politely but directly telling people “hey I didn’t like that”, “that wasn’t funny”, “you are mistaken”, and the like if it’s called for, and more importantly, you should be able to take a “that wasn’t funny” for instance without taking it personally, because protecting a polite harmony where no one can criticize each other, not even politely, is also really, really bad.
