AN INTRODUCTION:
trigger warnings: cancer & death
growing up in a strict household in windsor bay had been tough for lena. as an only child she always had her parent's full attention and it was both a blessing and a curse. she always longed for the freedom her friends had but her parents, while loving, were a bit of the helicopter type.
there was some solace in the close bond she'd shared with her aunt. the woman was a classic fun and adventurous "cool aunt" who had always encouraged lena to figure out who she was and what she wanted out of life on her own terms.
a bit of a late bloomer with sports, she'd done dance throughout her childhood, lena found soccer when she started high school and it was the best thing. despite being new at the sport, with her athleticism, lena picked up quick and became good enough by the time of graduation to get a local uni scholarship.
before she could make it there her aunt had been diagnosed with cancer, and though she'd never complain, splitting her time between school, soccer, and visiting/taking care of her aunt she struggled.
it was young adulthood. lena had finally gained some freedom by being 18 and moving in with her aunt but it was tough to watch and aide someone struggling with a terminal illness. essentially lena got a close up view of someone she loved dying and it effected her greatly.
when her aunt passed, after a 5 year struggle, just about everything had been left to lena. the house, some money, and her more prized possessions.
with the money and a business degree under her belt she decided to honor her aunt by opening a cafe. it's always been mia's dream and it had become hers too. lena was just as obsessed with coffee and as much as mia had talked about her dream cafe lena fell in love with the idea of it and had to make it happen.
that was when she opened up mug shot cafe and it became a local hit.
POTENTIAL CONNECTIONS:
The 3am club — the insomniacs who are either neighbors or meet up when the sleeplessness is at its worst. they talk and pass the time, get to know each other on different levels than they would otherwise, given the topics of conversation tend to be deeper in those sleepless hours.
Childhood friends — whether from early childhood on or somewhere in high school or uni, maybe even from the soccer team, give me these buddies and how they've either remained close or drifted back and forth through the struggles and pulls of life.
Adventure buddy — with the success of the cafe and confidence in her staff lena has been letting go a bit and is trying not to be such a workaholic. someone that goes hiking or surfing, maybe to professional sports games or on roadtrips, but someone that she can get out and do things with.
